Corey
ParticipantI just purchased the pro version of Events Calendar Pro and am trying to set up some dummy events to learn the system. I’ve installed both The Events Calendar and Events Calendar Pro, I’ve gone through the settings and entered my license key as well as all of the other options in the settings panel, I’ve added two test events in the Events section and nothing displays on the front-end of my site. For example, when I run http://example.com/events/, there is no calendar there (even though calendar is the selected view in the settings), there is only the title and description from one of my test entries. When I’m in the admin for one of my test entries and click “View Event” it takes me to the event page and all that displays is the event title and description just like a normal WordPress post. There is no date, time address or google map which I have all selected. It doesn’t seem like the plugin is working on the front-end of the site. All seems to be in order on the back end but it’s not displaying live. Am I doing something wrong?

MemberHey Corey. Thanks for the note, and for purchasing the plugin. Sorry to hear that you’re having issues. This definitely doesn’t sound like the correct behavior or the plugin so it sounds like something else is at play here.
First, do you have a link to the site that you can share so we can check it out directly? You may also want to check whether another plugin is conflicting (test by deactivating anything else you’ve got on to see if the issue persists), or your theme (test by reverting to the default 2011 theme).
Let me know and we can troubleshoot from there, to get you through this.

ParticipantHey Rob. Thanks for your response. I went in and activated the twenty-eleven theme and the calendar worked fine, so there’s obviously some sort of a conflict with my theme. Unfortunately in this situation we’re pretty committed to this theme at this point so I need to figure out what the conflict is. We have the site covered up with a “coming soon” page and you can only view it by logging into the WordPress admin. I’d probably need to send that to someone securely if at all possible.

MemberHey Corey. Thanks for confirming. If you want to send an email to pro /a/ tri.be, referencing this thread, I can get a dev to take a look first thing in the a.m.

ParticipantThat would be awesome. Thanks so much for your help. I’ll send the email through now.

MemberReceived; I’ve assigned this to a dev and you should be receiving a response shortly. You may want to experiment with the different templating options under Settings -> The Events Calendar (I see you’re using a theme-specific one rather than one generated by the plugin). Let me know if that yields anything positive. Otherwise I’ll see what a dev can offer up; no guarantees as this does relate to integration with a specific theme but we will definitely do what we can. Thanks Corey!

ParticipantThanks again. I did what you said and chose the plugin generated template and now it’s displaying but looks like it’s showing up really large. It’s much wider than the 980px container that the rest of the content throughout the site sits inside of. When I click on one of my test events in the calendar, the event details are so wide, it’s pushing the sidebar to the bottom of the page?

MemberAlright, thanks for confirming. I’ve got this on the dev’s radar and they should be reviewing/responding shortly. Cheers!

MemberHi Corey,
As promised, I took a look at the site. This type of problem unfortunately happens when a theme is poorly coded or makes assumption about what should appear on a certain page. In this case, the theme you are using is basically overriding the queries and templating functions of our plugin. Unfortunately, there is little we can do to prevent that, but that’s why we have the “Default Events Template” that Rob suggested. As witnessed, switching to it does make our calendar and other view work properly.
As you pointed out though, the calendar now spans full-width instead of remaining within the “box”. That’s because the theme is relaying on some divs in the markup to make the layout work.
In the plugin settings there’s 2 fields for inserting markup before/after the calendar, so I put in and respectively there (with the credentials you gave us). I basically used the full-width template to look-up/view source and determine which divs were necessary for the layout to work. There’s a few other divs you may want to insert in there if you want the white box around the calendar, but you got you headed in the right direction.
Another alternative if you need further customization or if you want to modify the plugin’s markup directly, you can use template overrides, see: https://theeventscalendar.com/?qa_faqs=what-are-template-overrides-and-how-do-i-do-them
Unfortunately, there’s only so much we can do to help our users with theme integration (especially when the theme doesn’t follow proper standards), but we do have the tools necessary to make it work (such as the before/after markup fields and the template overrides)
Hope this helps

ParticipantHey Joey, thanks so much for your help. Are there any overrides I could use to contain the event information page inside of the 600px wide container that’s set up for my theme so that it doesn’t push the sidebar to the bottom of the screen? Or at the least, make those pages “fullwidth” pages so that there is no sidebar at all? If you view one of the individual event pages and scroll to the bottom, you’ll see the sidebar and see what I mean.

MemberHey Corey,
My best suggestion for you is to take a look at a page you want to duplicate (e.g. one of your regular pages), open up firebug or chrome developer tools (anything that can inspect the markup/elements) and take a look at what markup/divs exist there and then port those over to the event pages using either of the two techniques I’ve mentioned thus far.
Unfortunately since this is considered customization of the plugin, there’s only so much support we can offer up. We’ve given you the tools, but can’t do the work for you 🙂
That being said, let us know if we can help out in any other way or point you in the right direction. Alternatively, you may look at hiring someone to help you out [if you’re interested email [email protected] and we can refer some names your way]
Best of luck,

ParticipantThanks Joey, I’ll circle back if I have anymore questions.
