ParticipantHi,
I’m trying to write my own php widget to display the most recent event title, date & description, but having difficulty resolving the title & date. I’m unable to post the code here. Now, on the test site, it’s displaying everything but the event title and date (see Upcoming Events section):

ParticipantHey Bart,
Since this is more of a support question than a pre-sales question, I’m going to move it over to that forum so you can get some help there.

MemberHi Bart,
I’m not sure there is too much we can offer here given that this is essentially a custom development question. As you can appreciate, the fact that you are unable to post code makes it doubly difficult as we have no way to know what’s going on with your code – and we certainly can’t write this for you.
Is using the existing Events List widget and setting it to display just one event, and perhaps customizing the related templates, a possibility instead?

ParticipantThanks Julie/Barry… I certainly understand your response and thought that myself as I typed it. Does the forum not support any code tags to render code snippets properly? Of course when I tried entering my code, it ripped out most of it. My initial thought was that possibly the call for the title & date were conflicting with what’s being called for the page the widget is displayed on, as if the loop wasn’t reset before/after the event call.
Unfortunately the event widget does not pull the excerpt. Perhaps if I can find the template file for the widget I can modify accordingly.
Thanks again for your time.

I do apologize, I completely misunderstood. You’re right though, the forum currently does a pretty terrible job with code and it is best to share it using a service like Pastebin or Gist (for some reason I actually thought when you wrote that you were unable to post the code here you meant you were not permitted to do so by your employer/client … sorry for the mix-up!).
Definitely do share what you’ve written though and – bearing in mind our support for customizations is limited – we’ll happily take a look and see if anything jumps out.
Perhaps if I can find the template file for the widget I can modify accordingly.
Yep that’s a possibility. Check out our Themer’s Guide for an overview, but I think basically you would be interested in targeting and overriding pro/widgets/list-widget.php.
Cheers!
