ParticipantIn the details laid out in your Themer’s Guide, you instruct users to create a /tribe-events/ directory in /wp-content/themes/your-theme/. What if we’re using a child theme? Should the /tribe-events/ directory be created in the child or parent theme directory?

MemberGenerally speaking it would make sense to place your overrides in the child theme.

ParticipantOk. Thanks. I just wanted to know best practice and try to avoid wasted time troubleshooting it if I chose the wrong way. I think, in theory, it will work either way, but from the standpoint of less maintenance when thmes/plugins are updated, the child theme made sense to me, too.

MemberDefinitely.
There are always going to be edge cases – but certainly for the majority of people a child theme makes sense, as it affords a clean and straightforward upgrade path when updates arrive for the parent theme, for example.

ParticipantSo, I’ve followed the instructions in the Themer’s Guide and I’ve placed the files in the directories as indicated. However, I can’t seem to get it to override the default style. I’ve tried having the /tribe-events/ in both child and parent now, too. I’ve cleared the cache with WPEngine, and I’ve cleared my browser cache and even tried a different browser on a different computer. When using Firebug, or Chrome or Safari’s dev tools, I can make and see the changes I’m wanting, but when I place that CSS in the tribe-events.css or tribe-events-pro.css, save and upload it, refresh the page…no changes.

ParticipantNevermind. It seems to be working now. Maybe it was a caching issue.

ParticipantGlad to hear it, wkeving. 🙂 We’re happy that it resolved itself. Do let us know if it rears its head again, though.
By the way, if you have a minute or two, we will love it if you would write a few words for us here:
