ParticipantThis has been getting in our way for a while now. Sometimes if we wait long enough the page will load correctly, but if we need to go in and edit multiple different Series it can become very time consuming.
My only guess is it is a memory limitation of sorts. Each past occurrence of Events with the “Radio Show” Category is planned on being broken from the Series and updated with specific information about it using an API we’re waiting on getting access to, so that’s why we have it set to save the past 99 months. However, as the site has only been up for a few months and the default setting is 24 months, I don’t think this is the problem.
By deactivating all Plugins and reverting to the twentyseventeen theme (twentyforteen is not on our server. If this default theme specifically needs tested, I can put it on there) this problem still persists. However, if it helps, here’s all the custom code on the site that isn’t otherwise available on the WP.org Repo or otherwise a Premium Plugin:

(The Theme-2017 and cpt-radio-shows Repos may be of the most interest. The cpt-radio-shows repo is named as such as it was originally its own CPT, but now it instead piggybacks onto The Events Calendar for Recurrence)and

MemberHey Harry,
Thank you for reaching out to us! I’m so sorry to hear that you are having performance issues while trying to edit your recurring events!
There is an internal bug report that may be associated with this problem: If a recurring event has multiple exclusions (15+) the edit event page freezes, or takes ~20s to load.
Can you please let me know if you did setup “Event Exclusions” for these recurring events? If you have, how many?
Also, please let me know if you have any other questions and I’ll be happy to assist!
Thanks,
Patricia

ParticipantI just checked and one of the Events that I knew specifically had this issue indeed has Fifty Exclusions! That may well be the problem then.
Is fixing this bug currently on the roadmap for a release soon? This negatively impacts our ability to efficiently manage Events quite a bit.

MemberHi Harry,
Thanks for sharing this info with us! With fifty exclusions in one event (wow!), you are being affected by this bug for sure. At this moment I cannot guarantee when it will be fixed, as it’s in the development team’s hands now. The good news is that you will be contacted as soon as a fix is available.
At this moment, to immediately improve performance, I would suggest you to remove Past Event Exclusions (don’t forget to backup your database before changing anything). I understand that this is not ideal, but is the only workaround available right now.
Thanks for your understanding and if you have any other questions in the mean time, please let me know and I’ll be happy to assist!
Best Regards,
Patricia

MemberHi there,
Just wanted to share with you that a new maintenance release is out, including a fix for this issue. We are aware there’s more room for improvement around this area, but hopefully these initial improvements will alleviate the situation for now.
Find out more about this release → https://theeventscalendar.com/maintenance-release-for-the-week-of-12-feburary-2018/
Update the plugins and let us know if the fix works for your site,
Cheers,
