Hi – I’m having trouble creating events on my new installation of the Events Calendar which I think is related to the theme / permalinks.
When I create an event it shows up on the calendar (http://msand.org.au/events) but the event/venue/organiser pages all come up with ‘page not found’ (http://msand.org.au/event/test-3/). ‘Preview Post’ works fine when I am creating the page, and the issue disappears when I use the default theme with default permalinks. Flushing permalinks doesn’t work. It would be great to be able to use post name permalinks with this theme though – is there a solution?
Thanks in advance!

It appears you’re experiencing the same issue I’ve run into recently… the date of the event is not automatically being appended to the event URL hence the event details are not being displayed.
I am experiencing the same issue with my site. I noticed the problem appeared some time AFTER I updated the Events Calendar to v3.7 and upgrade my site to WordPress 4.0. The interesting item I’ve noticed is that any events I had created several weeks ago prior to the upgrade work OK. However any new events that I created since the upgrade do not appear to work correctly.
I have my permalinks set to postname permalinks (i.e. http://www.example.com/%postname%). When I view older events in my Event Calendar page and I hover my mouse over the event I noticed that the event date is being added to the event URL (i.e. – http://www.familychristianfellowship.org/event/family-fellowship-group/2014-11-05/). On the new events that I recently created I noticed that the event date is not being appended to the event, hence when I click on the event I am getting a page not found error.
Thanks!
September 23, 2014 at 6:48 pm #762733msandwebParticipantHi oboston. That link with the date works but my new organiser and venue pages show up as ‘not found’ and there’s no date associated with them. In fact, it looks like my venue pages redirect to the event pages (http://msand.org.au/venue/test-3/). Thanks for the extra detail! A developer suggested a modification to the permalinks which just makes all the event links use default permalinks while the rest of the site uses postnamed permalinks. Hopefully there’s a simpler solution.

September 29, 2014 at 7:40 am #775709BrianKeymasterThanks for providing all the information.
From everything you provided it does look as you say an issue with the theme and our plugin.
Unfortunately, there is not much we can do to change the theme or really know what is causing the conflict with each other.
Have you tried contacting the theme developer and asking if they have a solution for this? They would know better about how there theme is setup and if they have coding in it to modify permalinks.
If you theme works with default permalinks and you are fine with keep it that maybe an option for now.
So I would say contact the theme developer and let them know the issue and if they have way to resolve it or can provide any other information where we might be able to resolve it with a snippet.
Let me know what you find out and we can go from there.
Thanks
September 29, 2014 at 7:51 am #775751Oral BostonParticipantI was able to resolve my issue by simply changing my events and single events slug from the default values of ‘events’ and ‘event’ to ‘calendar’ and ‘evnt’. This eliminated the conflict of the event slug used in my theme. All is working well now. Thanks!
September 30, 2014 at 6:10 am #778017BrianKeymasterThanks oboston for providing your resolution.
msandweb can you try changing the slugs on your events as well?
To change please go to Events->Settings->General Tab
Then these two fields are the slugs:
- Events URL slug
- Single event URL slug
Let me know if that works for you.
Thanks
October 1, 2014 at 5:12 am #780353msandwebParticipantThanks Brian and Oboston. Unfortunately that didn’t work for my site and I’ve stuck with default permalinks for now. Have been in touch with the developer and will post back if there’s any news. Thanks.
October 1, 2014 at 5:30 am #780391BrianKeymasterSorry to hear that msandweb.
Let me know what you find out from the developer and we can go from there to resolve this.
Thanks

October 7, 2014 at 7:20 am #794076BrianKeymasterAny news msandweb?
October 9, 2014 at 6:38 pm #799645msandwebParticipantUnfortunately not but I’m fairly sure it’s an issue with my site rather than the plugin. Thanks for following up!
October 10, 2014 at 7:50 am #800793BrianKeymasterOk keep us posted if you would like some more help. We typically close tickets after two weeks of no activity. I am not closing this one now, but if that would happen and you come back with a question or related issue you can create a new ticket and reference this one.
