ParticipantWe are using your Events Calendar Pro with Community plugin. Every now and then, the events calendar stops working and instead we get a ‘page not found’ error. When I log in to the webserver, I see a new directory in the root called ‘events’. If I delete that directory, the calendar starts working again for a while. We originally built this site in a subdomain, and I think the issues started after moving the site to the root domain (but I’m not sure). Does anybody know what might be going on?

Participantnybc2014,
Sorry to hear you’re having trouble here, but hopefully I can help. Can you try resetting your WordPress permalinks? You can do this by going to Settings->Permalinks and clicking ‘Save Changes’. Sometimes the permalinks get “stuck” and this can help to resolve the issue.Give that a try and let me know if you’re still having issues here. Thanks! 🙂

ParticipantIt’s happening again. I tried resetting permalinks and no change. I tried deactivating every plug-in, one at a time, and still no go. I have no idea why this keeps happening intermittently. Please help. If we cannot get this figured out, we will have to use a different calendar product….

Participantnybc2014,
Can you confirm that you have an .htaccess file in the root of your WordPress install, and that it’s permissions are set to be writable? If so and you’re still having issues, can you try deactivating all other plugins to see if that resolves the issue? If so, then try reactivating them one-by-one to determine if another plugin is the culprit. Give that a try and let me know what you discover. Thanks! 🙂

ParticipantThere is a .htaccess in the root directory and the permissions are set to be writable. I have deactivated all plugins and the issue remains. Any other ideas? It is currently broken. If I delete the ‘Events’ directory it starts working again, but then it breaks shortly thereafter.

ParticipantWe built this site in a subdirectory and I do not think the issue existed before moving the site to the root directory. We used Velvet Blues Update to change URL’s. Not sure if that might have done anything. I have also deleted and re-installed both Events Calendar and Events Calendar Plugin. Nothing seems to work…

ParticipantJust to clarify. We do not get a ‘Page not found’ or a 404 page. Instead, it just says “Index of/events” and then shows a link to ‘Parent Directory.’ What is causing the directory ‘events’ to be created? I delete it and it is back a few days or hours later…

It might be worth the effort to create a new, fresh install of WordPress in the root directory (or a subdomain) to see if these issues are still occurring. If they are still occurring in a fresh install, then we can narrow it down to issues with your server configuration and/or hosting setup.
We used Velvet Blues Update to change URL’s
I’m not familiar with that plugin, but it might also be worth reaching out to the plugin developer to see if other users have had permalink issues after using it.
A couple of other things I would try:
- Try deleting your .htaccess file and creating a new, empty file and then re-saving your permalinks in WordPress
- If that doesn’t help, reach out to your webhost and see if they might be able to shed some light on why this directory is being created.
Good luck and let me know what you discover. Thanks! 🙂

ParticipantNope. Still broken. I tried deleting the .htaccess file and creating a new one, emptying and resetting permalinks and the issue still came back.
If we cannot get this fixed, we will have to use a different calendar product. If it comes to this, are we eligible for a refund for Pro and Community add-ons?April 10, 2014 at 1:25 pm #130686nybc2014
ParticipantThis issue is probably resolved. Turns out there was a subdomain (events.nybc.net) set up on the hosting server that was causing a conflict.

ParticipantGreat! 😀 Glad you were able to sort that one out! Since it looks like you’re all set, I’m going to mark this thread “Answered” and close it out.
By the way, if you have a minute or two, we would love it if you’d write a few words for us here: http://wordpress.org/support/view/plugin-reviews/the-events-calendar?filter=5
Thanks in advance. 🙂
Cheers,
