If an event category does not have any currently schedule event, the page for that category does not load completely, which prevents display of the “view past events” link. The spinning load icon simply shows endlessly. It does show the “No matching events”t — just doesn’t load the rest of the page.

I see the same issue if I use the map search feature to search for an event in a geographic region where no current events are scheduled– except in that situation it doesn’t even show the “no events found” text — just the spinning icon.

I have Events Calendar Pro installed on two different sites and I am seeing the problem on both sites. Neither site has a particularly large number of events in the database – on one site it is less than 80, the other has less than 20.

Even though the spinning icon is displayed, these do not show up as running processes on the server. I’m not seeing anything in error logs either.

    Howdy Abigail,

Thanks for the thorough description. I would love to help you with this.

It sounds like your server is probably encountering a PHP error when attempting to load those pages. Do you know how to check the error logs on your server? If you are some seeing some errors for around the time you are trying to load that page, could you copy/paste them here as a private reply?

Another thing to try would be to test if a “conflict” is happening, and if so narrow it down so we can find a fix for it. This guide walks you through how to test for a conflict, and then identify what is conflicting. Usually PHP errors are the result of a conlflict, hence why this would be a good step too.

Does that all make sense? Will that work for you? Please let me know.

    Cheers!

I am not seeing anything relevant in the WordPress error log or in the apache error logs. System is running Centos 6 in a CPanel environment. PHP logging is enabled. I did try different browsers and the problem persists.

I haven’t yet tried disabling plugins, etc, because these are live sites but I’ll go ahead and see what happens if I disable plugins that are not essential to site function and report back if it makes a change.

If that doesn’t work, I’ll have to wait to do testing outside of peak hours.

UPDATED: I just tested your demo site at http://wpshindig.com/events/map/ — I’m seeing the same issue there.

Here’s what I did — I simply looked at the map and selected an area for which there are no events — and entered that in the search field. For my test I chose “India” in the “Near” field. I just get the never-ending spinner, rather than an any sort of “not found” message. I’ve tested with Chrome, Edge & Firefox.

So basically you can start there.

Ahh thanks Abigail. I did test the empty category view on our site before responding, but did not try the map view search. I am seeing that too. Thank you very much for reporting and isolating this bug.

I am logging it for our devs to have a look. If I had to guess this is a prime candidate for being fixed in 4.1, our next upcoming full release. I will talk this over with our strategist to see when the soonest is that we can address this.

As soon as a fix is ready for release we will post back here and let you know. In the mean time let me know if you have any questions. Cheers!

Thanks. I couldn’t test the issue with a category link on your demon site, because I have no way of knowing what category there, if any, has no current or future event schedules.

I’m marking this issue as resolved now, as obviously there’s nothing we can do but wait for whatever the developers figure out.

Thanks abigail. I will mark this “Pending Fix” on our end, so we know it’s not fully resolved until a fix is ready.

    Cheers!
