We bought the Gameplan Theme from Themeforest. The theme recommended using Calendar PRO if you need recurring events which we do. As a large gym, they run overlapping times for different classes. There is no way to accomplish this in Calendar PRO and you make NO MENTION of this detail. We have read many other similar issues with other users online. We can’t be the only user in the world that has an overlapping class schedules!

    Hi jstorm,

There is no reason you can’t have two (or more) events running concurrently that I’m aware of – but perhaps I’m misinterpreting. Do you mean you can’t force a recurring event to repeat at intervals that would cause a number of instances to overlap within a single day? If so, yes that is certainly a limitation at present.

    Hello Barry,

    Thank you for your response. What I mean is we are trying to create several events in a one hour time slot. Some times overlap. Here is an example;

    9:30 AM – 10:30 AM
    SPINNING
    STREVE

    9:30 AM – 10:30 AM
    BOXING FOR FITNESS
    CHRIS

    9:35 AM – 10:40 AM
    BARRE & STRETCH
    MONIQUE
When you input these events as an example, you the can’t view the events clearly. They stack up on each other.

    Anohter example;
    5:45 AM – 6:15 AM
    ZUMBA
    STEPHANIE

    6:00 AM – 7:00 AM
    SPINNING
    HEATHER

    6:15 AM – 6:45 AM
    MUSCLE MAX
    STEPHANIE

Same problem the event boxes appear stacked on each other and difficult to read. This is a BIG problem as the gyms previous site didn’t have this problem. Each time slot / cell should expand vertically to accommodate several times and order them bases on time or alpha. Recurring seems to be working fine. The issue is Calendar PRO only works properly IF……you have 1 event per hour or 1 event per half hour, or you have a schedule that has NO overlapping times which is highly unrealistic or a large, busy gym with several activities going on at the same time.

*** I would provide screen shots if this app supported them.

We purchased Calendar PRO as recommended by the Gameplan theme and trusted it would provide needed functionality for a typical gym with typical scheduling needs. But at the moment, this is a total waste of $65.00 and would be yearly (based on license) if it can’t support the client. We need to buy another tool like http://quanticalabs.com/script/timetable-responsive-schedule-for-wordpress/7010836 which is only $16.00 and seems to allow more complex schedules.

I see – so though I can’t see your site using the URL you provided I’m going to guess you are referring specifically to week view. Is that correct and would it be viable for you to use a different view instead, with or without some customizations to make it mesh a little more tightly with your needs?

Well, it seems the cells will expand in “month” view, but don’t in “week” view. Moth is too much for users to deal with. IF the cells would expand in week view, I think we’d be fine!

    OK, that makes some sense.

At this time, however, that isn’t something week view will do by itself. So you can definitely look at making your own customization to achieve this (whether tweaking week view or even building a replacement – though I appreciate that may not be the ideal in your case) or else you could switch to a different view such as list or month and either use them as-is or else customize them in turn.

We’re also definitely open to any feature requests you might make with regards to improving week view or indeed anything else and, if you are interested in exploring the process for making tweaks and customizations, the following resources should be useful:

Thank you for your reply. It doesn’t make sense that the week view doesn’t support this function and the month view does. Why would the feels only expand in the month view? Sounds like someone got lazy while developing the plug-in. This calendar is the recommended and deeply integrated calendar for the Gameplan Theme. Any reasonably size gym will absolutely need this functionality, members looking at the site don’t want to look the whole month, especially when we’re well into a month. This calendar theme plug-in cost more than a complete theme with far greater functionality. At $65 a year, this is a giant over site and cost prohibitive requiring additional development cost to have modified.

I appreciate your suggestion to make a feature request, but this is more than a request, it seems absolutely necessary as there are many posts online for users dealing with the same problem. Perhaps the solution is to have YOUR developers offer modification code to make this work until you get it implemented into the future versions?

Hi jstorm, thanks for your feedback 🙂

It doesn’t make sense that the week view doesn’t support this function and the month view does. Why would the feels only expand in the month view?

In the context of month view events are arrayed vertically within each cell of the grid, so given how web pages typically work – they ordinarily increase in length but the width is fixed – they are free to expand almost infinitely. That isn’t true in weekview, where there is a finite amount of horizontal space and increasing the width without any limits is highly likely to result in layout issues with most themes.

Sounds like someone got lazy while developing the plug-in.

I don’t think that’s fair and can assure you that a large amount of time and effort went into week view. That doesn’t guarantee it will be perfect for every use-case, of course, but the same could be said of any view. One of the reasons we provide so many different views is to let you choose the best means of presenting event data in your particular case.

I appreciate your suggestion to make a feature request, but this is more than a request, it seems absolutely necessary as there are many posts online for users dealing with the same problem. Perhaps the solution is to have YOUR developers offer modification code to make this work until you get it implemented into the future versions?

Week view is behaving just as it was designed to behave. It’s a shame it doesn’t meet your specific needs but there are other views you can use instead – and customizing things to better fit your precise requirements is also an avenue you can explore.

Let’s be clear though that we’re not going to deliver a set of modifications in the short term to meet your own specific needs – that just isn’t how we operate. If you want to propose a change or enhancement to our plugin (such as changing the existing week view or adding a new, alternative week view) then the correct course of action is to post a feature request.

At $65 a year, this is a giant over site and cost prohibitive requiring additional development cost to have modified.

I’m sorry to hear you feel that.

However, if this is going to be a real barrier to your use of the plugin that’s definitely a shame and we don’t want to “hold you hostage” – it would be far better in a case like this to refund you so you can invest in a different plugin that better meets your needs. If you’d like to take that route then please do consider contacting us (you can email us at pro [at] tri [dot] be … please do include a link to this thread and a copy of your purchase receipt).

    Thanks again.
