Chad
ParticipantHi,
Maybe I am missing something completely obvious, but out of the box it looks like events are not ordered by event start date and I can find no code in the docs, faq or forum to do so. Please let me know how to do this or where to find the information.

MemberHey Chad! Thanks for reaching out, and sorry to hear you’re having issues. The plugin should by default list your events in order of when they’re appearing (with the soonest ones appearing atop the list). Are you seeing something different? Mind sharing a link to your site, if so? We can try to troubleshoot from there. Thanks!

ParticipantHi Rob,
For me, this is also an issue. But the problem isn’t on the frontend, but in the backend. When you’re in the activities page (with the listing of alle events), it always starts with the event that is the ‘latest’ one. You can click on ‘start date’ to change it, but by default it’s the other way around. Annoying for my client…

MemberHey Maikel. Thanks for the note here. I understand what you’re saying here – yes, on the backend, the events do default to having the furthest out events at the top of the page. The reason being that if you had events appearing with the oldest first, you would gradually start to have a list of more and more events that had already passed. If you had 100 events, by the time the first 50 had passed you’d need to scroll through those first 50 just to get to #51, the first actually-future event (Since we don’t have a “Past Events” section, like the “Draft”/”Published”/”Scheduled” tabs atop the page, they all still live on the main page there).
That being said we have had a few requests for what you’re noting here over the past couple weeks. So I suspect there’s enough demand that we’ll add such a feature into a future release. Hope this helps and sorry I couldn’t offer up more. Let me know what else I can do.

ParticipantHi I am having the same issue that chad is having. My upcoming events list is not showing in order of events, instead it is showing in order of published on my events page. Also, the title for the events page is showing as the title of the top listed event (the newest published in this case. Can you let me know how I can adust this?

Thanks for your help! trying ti launch this tomorrow for client. thanks!April 26, 2012 at 3:34 pm #18340Rob
MemberHey again Laura. Thanks for the note on this issue. It sounds like there are two issues at play here: the widget not displaying the events by date of occurrence, and the first event on the list appearing as the title of the calendar. I am indeed seeing both on your site.
My first thought would be to just confirm that you’re running the latest 2.0.5 release for both The Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO. Also, what happens if you enable permalinks? My guess is the latter will do the trick here. Just go to Settings -> Permalinks, change to a structure like “postname” (/%postname%/), save and then let me know whether either of these issues persist from there.
I can keep troubleshooting/offering up suggestions of not. Cheers!

ParticipantHi Rob, thank you for your response. Unfortunately neither did the trick. I am currently running the latest version of both events calendar and events calendar pro, and I’ve also changed my permalinks to post name, but the two errors are still occurring. Any other idea to a fix?

ParticipantOkay Rob,
So after changing the permalinks, initially nothing changed, but then I went back into the events calendar settings and saw that the “slug url” that I had read about in the documentation that was not showing in ym settings was now showing…. so I saved the settings with the slug as events, and now the new page /events is showing the events in the correct order. 🙂
The page title is still showing as the top event however.. still haven’t figured out how to correct that one, so any help for that one will be great. Thanks again!April 27, 2012 at 9:56 am #18362Jonah
ParticipantHi Laura,
What you’re going to have to do is filter the page title with something like this: https://gist.github.com/2269952
This is specific to the WooThemes framework so you’ll need to use your themes specific filter for page titles. I hope that helps!

ParticipantThank you, but I have no idea what this means. Do I place this code somewhere? if so, where does it go?
Where do I find my themes specific filter for page titles?
Thanks!April 27, 2012 at 10:19 am #18367Jonah
ParticipantHi Laura,
Sorry for being obtuse. That code would go in your theme’s functions.php file but as I mentioned, it’s specifically for the WooThemes framework so you’d have to modify it for your theme.
To narrow this down a bit more I’ll need some information from you.
1. What theme are you using?
2. What do you have set as the template in Settings > The Events Calendar > Template? -
