Hi, I’ve been using Events Calendar Pro for a while now and have not had any problems. However, when we upgraded to WordPress 4.8.2 we lost the events on our calendar so had to update both Events Calendar plugins and since then opening a recurring event to edit in WordPress admin takes a few minutes.

Having read other forum posts I can see this is a known issue. Creating a new recurring event doesn’t have this problem and editing an existing non-recurring event is also fine. I’ve disabled all plugins and reverted back to the Twenty Fourteen theme and still no joy. I’ve tried opening one of the affected events and re-saving to rebuild the recurring dates but that didn’t work. I’ve also installed the recommended Events Calendar PRO: Recurrence Events Rebuild plugin but that hasn’t had any effect either.

So before I have to delete all our events which have recurring dates and re-add them, is there anything else I can try?

    Hey Chris,

Thanks for going Pro and welcome to the forums!

I’m sorry about the issue with the recurring events. Let me try to help you with this.

From what plugin versions did you update? This issue usually happens if you run an update from a version before Events Calendar Pro 4.4.

What kind of rules to the misbehaving events have? Are there custom (“Once”) type of rules? Those are usually the ones causing this issue.

We have modified on how recurring events are handled in the background in version 4.4. Most of the rules can be ported over without issues. But unfortunately there is no cure for recurring events with “Once” custom rules. Those need to be deleted and re-entered. These rules couldn’t be ported.

Let me know and I’ll try to help you further.

    Cheers,
    Andras

    Hi Andras,

Thanks for getting back to me.

Looking back at past commits, it looks like previously installed versions of Pro included 4.1.1 and 4.2.

No, the rules are simply weekly recurring rules. Editing one of them now shows the ‘Event Series’ set to Weekly. On that particular event, however, there are 40+ ‘Event will not occur’ entries which I don’t remember adding?

    Hey Chris,

Yeah, the ‘Event will not occur’ entries are a sign of what I mentioned above. It is an unfortunate side-effect of the update at version 4.4 which appeared in some cases.

There are 2 option to solve this, and unfortunately both of them require manual work:

    • delete the exclusions
    • delete the whole event and re-create it

Re-creating the whole event with the recurrence rules is definitely the safer option and possibly the faster option as well. Creating one event is surely faster then deleting 40 recurrence rules.

I checked if it can be done manually in the database. Yes, but requires even more work.

I’m sorry if this is not the answer you were expecting. I really wish I could provide a better solution for you.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Cheers,
    Andras

Hey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics.
