Trying to use the new beta of EA to import from another TEC instance, I initially got the “unknown service” error that has bee mentioned in other thread. Though my import did save. When I try to do the preview now I get
“Event Aggregator cannot import events because this site is running an outdated version of The Events Calendar.”
All my plugins are current and match the downloads page in my TEC account
May 4, 2017 at 2:09 pm #1278837CliffMemberHi.
This functionality was released as “Other URL” import in version 4.5
Please delete The Events Calendar free/core plugin and then reinstall a fresh version from the wp-admin plugin installer.
Deleting The Events Calendar or its add-on plugins will NOT delete any of your data if you delete it via the WordPress plugin manager because that’s how we’ve decided to code our plugin.
FYI: deleting any plugin via FTP or cPanel’s File Manager (i.e. deleting just the files from the server) will also ensure a plugin gets deleted (if you delete the entire plugin folder) without removing any data from the database. This can sometimes be helpful to know in cases where a plugin does run an uninstall routine to delete data (again, our plugins do not run such a routine at this time and probably never will).
You can also see the difference when you click to delete a plugin, like this.

May 4, 2017 at 2:23 pm #1278847dswieseParticipantDeleted and reinstalled fresh from the WP repo. no luck
Still says I have an outdated version.May 4, 2017 at 2:46 pm #1278862CliffMemberEvent Aggregator is built into our free/core The Events Calendar plugin so if you got a fresh copy from https://wordpress.org/plugins/the-events-calendar/, then it should not be reporting this error. It sounds like you’re pretty clear about this so maybe you need to clear your server’s Varnish cache or your browser’s cache or something like that.
Would you be able to share an annotated screenshot, screen capture video, and/or relevant URLs to clarify exactly what’s happening here?
May 5, 2017 at 12:42 am #1279044Sally RichardsonParticipantHi – in case it helps: I had the same problem. Having found another thread about this I tried an amended feed url which had everything after the last / removed – ie by removing the ? onwards from the end of the feed url – and then it worked!
Not sure if this is a bug or a feature (!) but gets the feed working for “other url”!May 5, 2017 at 11:20 am #1279422CliffMemberThanks for sharing that!
Could both of you please share the URL(s) you’re trying to import from so I can try to replicate this issue?
May 5, 2017 at 1:03 pm #1279551dswieseParticipantI am using a shared Namecheap hosting server so no way to reboot that i know of.
I am trying to import https://mwlpdx.com/calendar/May 5, 2017 at 2:39 pm #1279621Sally RichardsonParticipantHi – thanks Cliff

May 5, 2017 at 3:09 pm #1279636CliffMemberThank you!
@dswiese, your issue is that https://mwlpdx.com/calendar/ is running TEC 4.1.3 and needs to be running 4.5 or later to be imported from. This error is clear for me: https://cl.ly/3E1n2v3q1h1d

@tashmina-artists, http://www.tashmina.co.uk/ is running a proper version of TEC to allow importing from it.EA should not be fed an iCal URL for the Other URL. When trying to import that URL, I see this message: “Unknown service message” — although not super helpful, it still does seem appropriate here.
Trying to import http://www.tashmina.co.uk/concerts/category/combined-sax-and-clarinet/robert-plane/list/ gives me the same error message I got before, which is a different message than what you experienced.
However, importing http://www.tashmina.co.uk/concerts/category/combined-sax-and-clarinet/ works for me. Could you please explain what your extra “/robert-plane” part of your URL is?
May 5, 2017 at 4:01 pm #1279661dswieseParticipant@cliff thanks for the update! that is the error I am getting, but it wasnt clear if that error was regarding my site, or as you clarified, the site I am importing from.
thanks!
May 5, 2017 at 9:20 pm #1279714CliffMemberYou bet! Glad I could help clear that up.
@tashmina-artists, if you need additional support, please open your own thread. Thanks to you both!
