ParticipantHello! I’m pretty sure this isn’t included, but just wanted to check before contributing to “suggest a feature.”
We have a number of regular recurring events that we input for the maximum time allowed. I can already see how difficult it will be to remember to extend these before that date comes.
Is there any way the last event in a recurring series might be made to show up differently on the admin side so it stands out?
I’m sure there are number of ways to accomplish the basic task. For now all I can think to do is create a reminder in Google Calendar for 12 months down the line.

MemberHey William,
That’s a great idea, though you are correct that there’s nothing like this in the plugin at the moment.
Just to confirm, when you say you’re inputting events for the maximum time allowed, is that a limit you are setting? The plugin allows you to create recurring events for an unlimited, unspecified time into the future, though there is a setting to only show a specific number of months in advance (screenshot). As that time limit is reached, new recurring event instances will be generated for the series you created — it just won’t won’t crash your site by creating all of those events for you at once. 🙂
Cheers!

ParticipantSo if I set the limit to two months and create an event that ends “never” or on a date beyond the two months, then at the end of the two month-period another two month’s worth of listings will be generated? If so that’s awesome! I assumed that “never” basically meant “as long as permitted based on your settings” and that after that period you’d have to edit the event manually to extend it any more.
If I understand you correctly then I wouldn’t really have any need for what I was describing, since my concern was mainly with community users having the ability to create tons and tons of recurring events in one sitting with an errant key stroke.

MemberHey William,
Yes, that is correct. You can set the limit for creating recurring events at, let’s say two months, then create a recurring event that never ends and that will let the calendar know to keep creating events as the time frame is reached.
Did you have any other questions about recurring events that I can help answer? Please let me know. 🙂
Cheers!

ParticipantCool. Just one more clarification- let’s say the limit is two months and I create a weekly event today that ends “never”, I’ll get eight events going up to late September. Does the plugin wait until those initial eight events have all passed to create eight more? Or are they created on a rolling basis so that a week from now another event would be created on the tail end, in which case there would always be eight to come?

MemberGood question! My understanding (and from what I confirmed with the team) is that the new events will be created on an ongoing basis based on the current date — in other words, it will not wait until those 8 weeks are up to create a new recurring instance, but will create them as it is available to do so.
