ParticipantHi there, we are trialing this out for a new client (v4.2) and have encountered a few issues. Please note we got the same issues with the latest version as well:
1. When setting up the new iCal import it cannot find any results even though there are definitely events on that day. See 1.jpg attached. This isn’t a major as you’ll see in point 2 below searching on a different date finds some results so we can progress.
2. So we selected a past date that eventually returned results (21/6), but was only importing events from that one day as opposed to that being the start date. See 2.jpg attached. That won’t be much use as we want ALL events from the start date to be imported as they get updated.
3. Does the ‘overwrite existing’ option mean that if events are changed or deleted from the source (e.g. in the google calendar) that those changes will be reflected on the site?
4. Then after saving I see an error straight away, see 4.jpg attached. To clear this I need to edit > save > which is ok to do the first time. But when I refresh the error returns and tells me that only 1 event is imported but it did import all 4 events, so why the discrepancy?
5. Lastly, as mentioned above, this is a bit of a pain just to import events for one day. Surely this should all us to set a start date and then fetch all events AFTER that start date as opposed to fetching only from that start date. It all just seems a bit buggy to me.
We want to use this urgently but just can’t if it isn’t working. Any thoughts?

ParticipantJust to add to my woes, the script has run which is good but it has imported 1,370 events and ALL are historical, so before the start date instead of after which is the total opposite of what we want.
And on the importer screen it still says it has only imported 1 event.

ParticipantHey Patrick,
Thanks for reaching out to us!
I’m sorry to hear about the issues you’re experiencing here with our plugin. As a starting point, would you mind sharing (in a private reply if you’d like) the iCal feed source that you’re using so I can test with the same feed? Then I’ll be able to go through each of your points directly.
Thanks!

ParticipantHi, can someone please get back to me we really need to push on with this?

ParticipantHey Patrick,
I apologize for the delay here. I’ve been testing here but was unable to replicate the issues described here with that feed. However, I think there may be some confusion here around the errors on the recurring import feature.
Were you able to successfully import the events on the initial import (I imagine starting 6/22/2016 based on the other items you’re describing)? If so, that may be why if you selected the past date of 6/21/2016 that only events for that day would show as available for import. All other future dates were already imported so they wouldn’t show here.
This would be the same issue when the recurring import scheduled to run again (for that 30 minutes). If there were no new events (or changes to existing events) to import, I do believe the “your search returned no results” would be a correct statement there.
However, if no events were ever imported from that feed, then there would be some issues here. Was that the case?
When testing the link (and testing a past date) I’m currently able to see 345 events available for import from 6/21 on https://cloudup.com/cmTtPYIBblC.
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks!

ParticipantThanks Josh,
Ok can I clarify one thing: if changes are made to an event from the source those changes are updated onto the website? If so great. Further to that, if events are deleted at the source are they then deleted from the site?
Now to answer your question, the issue may be that I first imported > then deleted all events as it brought through all historical events as well as future events (over 1000 in total) even though I set a start date. So I deleted all events and tried re-importing and started to receive the errors above. So do you think this is all related to me first deleting the initial import?
If so what can I do to essentially ‘reset’ so I can re-import fresh?
Thank you!

ParticipantHey Patrick,
Ah! Gotcha. I think I know the root of the issue here.
When events imported via the iCal Importer are deleted, they get stored as a “deleted_event”. The idea here was that if it was imported and then deleted then the intention was for it not to be imported so it doesn’t show back up in the list of available events to be imported.
To address this though, you can use the Bulk Delete plugin to delete all events of the “deleted_event” post type and try re-importing again.
For your first question there, are you asking if events that were previously imported into your website are then deleted from Google Calendar, will those events then be deleted from your website? If so, then no, events won’t be deleted from your website if they were removed from the Google Calendar.
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks!
