Not sure if there is a fix for this yet…or what is causing it…but when I am logged in as an admin…I can see the visual editor just fine when adding a new event. If logged in as an “Editor” …I not only can not see the Visual Editor…I can’t type anything in the editor box. Any one else having this problem or have any recommendations?

Hey Brent. That is definitely a weird issue; I’m not seeing the same thing on my default 2011 install, so I’m wondering if something else is at play here. Any chance you’ve got any role manager-like plugins active? And does this happen on every browser you try?

Let me know. Might be good to try the old deactivation route (deactivating other plugins and reverting to the default 2011 theme if needed), to see if this is a conflict with something in the system.

Hey Rob…thanks for the response….already a sign of a great product! Alright…I went through all plugins installed (including Role Scoper) and deactivated one by one. Nothing changed until I deactivated the Event Calendar Pro premium add-on plugin. Once that was deactivated…I was able to see the visual editor again..as well as the event location/venue/organizer details. All of the above become hidden when the pro plugin is activated. Again..this is only affected users which have an editor role…not administrative. I also just activated the 2011 theme which I have not edited at all…and am seeing the same problem.

Hey Brent. That’s very bizarre. Is it possible you are running the plugins out of sync, ie The Events Calendar 2.0.4 and Events Calendar PRO 2.0.5 (or some similar combination)? That’s the one cause that I can see yielding this result, if another plugin isn’t the culprit.

Let me know if, with PRO, the visual editor issue also impacts non-events pages. Please also resave your permalinks before testing as that could have some bearing here. We’ll try and continue troubleshooting from there.

Rob, both plugins are 2.0.5. Resaved the permalinks. And did notice that the visual editor works in pages and posts. So the issue is isolated to only events pages.

Hey Brent. That’s very bizarre; is the site public, so I could take a look? If so please send me a set of Editor credentials to pro /a/ tri.be with some basic steps to recreate and a link to this thread…I can try to figure out what’s going on from there.

Thanks for the email, Brent. I used the creds you provided and jumped into the backend and I was indeed able to recreate the issue. I had a couple thoughts on this:

    * I noticed that the backend admin bar is hidden, and seemingly on JUST the Events pages, which I didn’t think WP offered a solution for: http://d.pr/i/WQUl. How was that done? If it’s custom code, is it possible that could be conflicting with the visual editor? No idea if that’s the case but it looked weird as I didn’t have the logout options or anything else.
    * I see on the admin there, we have “roles” & “restrictions.” In the past we have heard of some conflicts with custom role managers & users generally trying to adjust/restrict permissions. It sounds like per above you’ve already tested with that deactivated but I just want to double check.
    * The broader events list is also messed up; when I attempt to view it as an editor it just sits at http://d.pr/i/Lfea.
    * We have had a number of users report conflicts with WP-Multitouch as well, but as per the notes earlier it sounds like you’ve already deactivated that too. Let me know if I’m wrong there.

All that to say…this does seem specific to the Editor role, and specifically that editor role’s interaction with Events. I’m really at a loss as to what could be causing this (you’re the first we’ve encountered it with), so if you can confirm then points above and that you’ve tried/retried those things, I can see whether our dev team has any suggestions on their end. Apologies for the inconvenience thus far.

    Hey Rob,
Sorry for the delay in response…got swamped with a few large scale projects and didn’t mean to leave this issue unattended. I have no idea as to why the admin bar is gone when a non-admin is logged in. I went through and deactivated every plugin but the Free version of the Event Calendar Plugin. Doing this…everything works perfect as an editor with adding an event. But…the second I activate the Pro version…the admin bar goes away as does half of the functionality for adding an event. I am at a loss as well. I have no problem giving PHP my admin access to the dev team and/or ftp access. I also did try activating both the 2011 and 2012 default themes…and same problem exists.

Gotcha; thanks for confirming, Brent, and no worries about the delay. I know how things can go on that end.

Why don’t we do this: 2.0.7 for both The Events Calendar and Events Calendar PRO will be released today. They include a number of bug fixes, a couple related to permissions; would you be willing to give updating those a go and let me know if the issue persists from there? I can bring a dev in at that point if needed.

Thanks for your patience so far.

Upgraded both as well as upgraded the WP to the latest version. Also went in and deleted the pro plugin and wiped out all files and then reinstalled…hoping that all of the above might do something. Still doing the same thing though. We have had to temporarily deactivate the pro plugin so that the client could add events. The only downfall is they can’t do reoccurring events. You guys have a great product with this so have no prob sticking with it and working through this and getting it all fixed up. Appreciate all of your help thus far.

Hey Brent. Apologies for the delay here. We’re a bit backlogged on support this month, and so there’s been a bit of a bottleneck in addressing issues in general. This one is doubly challenging because we’re 100% unable to recreate it and are quite positive it’s something related to your specific install.

I don’t really know what else to suggest, to be honest, besides attempting to create an entirely new site to see if the issue persists there. Have you checked that you’re running PHP 5.2 or later? That *could* be the issue. Similarly another user reported a problem where switching from 5.2 to 5.3, weirdly, fixed a problem he was having so that may be worth giving a go here. I assume by this point you’re also on WP 3.4.1?

Let me know. 2.0.8 is also hopefully releasing today (if we can get by a bug we encountered during the launch process), so it’s possible that you’ll have some relief there.
