No Featured Image when editing an Event

When I add or edit an Event in the administration area, there is no Featured Image option. There isn’t even the Featured Image available in the screen options: http://i43.tinypic.com/2lwx655.jpg

I have already tried the following solutions but they have not worked:

It could be that your theme declares post thumbnail support only for a specific set of post types.

When you created this thread you indicated that you had tried switching to a default, unmodified theme – did you find that this restored the featured image selector?
