No control over my venue featured image size

I inpot a smaller file and it is not constrained with in proportions. It is almost like it blows up to a larger size. In the Club page on the site I list a nuber of venues some of which are constrained in a small box. and some of which open at a much larger scale then they are.
Do they have to be a perfect square 1:1 ratio?

I have this problem with the Featured images as well in News articles. I have a smaller photo set as featured image and then it blows up to a full page width.
Is there any way of controling the Featured image size for both Posts and Venues?

Hey Scott,

Featured images depend on a few things, including the sizes WordPress and your theme generates, if you’re using the correct size in your templates, using CSS, etc. Please review our Featured Images tutorial for more information on the matter and let me know if you’re able to get things squared away.
