"Next Event" widget finds no events since I upgraded to 3.12.1

I upgraded events calendar and events cal pro from 3.8 to 3.12.1 and now, the next events widget shows no up[coming events, when there are in fact upcoming events.

The next event widget is in the right hand column on the home page, and as you can see, it says “There are no upcoming events at this time.”

It has been a year since I have dived into this code- not sure where to begin looking.

I discovered that the sidebar was using a widget called “Next Event” which was not working. I added the widget call “Upcoming Events” and that worked.
So- it is good now.
