Newbie question – FTP client required?

Hi there, I just purchased Events Calendar Pro today and immediately got to work installing on an under-development website which is running the latest version of Divi on WordPress.

After carefully reading through the Themer’s Guide, it seems to me that to accomplish step 2, creating a new folder in the theme, and beyond, requires having an FTP client? I can’t find anywhere in WordPress where I can access the theme directory, or plugin source outside of maybe the editor which everyone cautions not to touch.

I did play around with various CSS plugins, and look through Divi forums to see if anyone has some clear ideas outside of directly editing within an FTP client.

I know this is a super newbie question so bear with me 🙂 Am I correct that to follow the Themer’s guide requires an FTP client? Or am I just missing something obvious? I just want to implement some basic customization.

You are correct, to add/copy files to your theme directory you will need to get an FTP client. I highly recommend Cyberduck. They have excellent documentation here https://trac.cyberduck.io/wiki/help/en

Once you’re connected to the server you can add/delete and modify files. I recommend making a backup of your site before you make any changes, it’s always nice to have a safety net!
