Need to edit title and add content above the form

Hi, I found this article here: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/add-html-above-community-events-submission-form/
but when I added the code to my functions.php file (in my child theme), it made me get a parse error. I’m using the Avada theme and not sure what to do. I need to add some text below MY EVENTS and also change the title from My Events to “Submit An Event”. Thanks!

Would you mind sending me a copy of your Avada theme child in a .zip file link (via Dropbox or Google Drive) so that I can run some tests on my end ?

Thank you for writing back and for the link.

I ran a little test with your child theme.
The snippet, as is, did not give me a parse error, but did not look good at all with your child theme.

I  added a little <div> and removed the last

tag.
