    Hello,

I am thinking of getting the pro version but I am having issue with the free one and not confident that the pro version will be any different. It does not seem to apply any style changes I make in the settings to the calendar view. I am looking at the month view when you click on the slug link. Example would be the number heading, example today is day 4-. Basically the bar that shows what the current day is. I am using wordpress with the Avada theme. If I change the color in the avada them settings for event calendar, no matter what color I choose it stays white on the month calendar view. I removed all cache file, locally and on the server host. Still stays white. I even tried to uninstall the plug in and install a new fresh one, but as you know my settings, and test events came all back and same issue. I am not sure how to even go back to the a fresh version. Wish I could just get rid of all those old files, but you guys have to provide the location of those stored files and steps on how to remove them. Anyways, please help asap, as a calendar is the last piece of my site and I need to make a decision on what plug in I want to use. So far this is not working for me. Sad, because everything looks really cool. Just need to be able to style it to my website.

    regards,

    Jason

Good evening Jason and welcome to the Events Calendar forum!

Thank you for your interest in our products.
We’ll be glad to answer your questions.

It does not seem to apply any style changes I make in the settings to the calendar view.

This will largely depend on what theme you are using. Some themes “take over” the styling options (Avada comes to mind which turns out is your theme).

This can also depend on your settings under Events -> Settings -> Display .
More specifically your settings for Default stylesheet used for events templates

You should also take a look at your CSS rules, as they might be overriding some of your customizations: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/using-google-chrome-developer-tools/

Finally, some of it might be defined under Appearance > Customize > The events calendar. So you might want to look there.

To summarize, by the sound of it, one of these settings is preventing your changes from kicking in.

One way to see if Avada is interfering would be to try temporarily reverting back to a default WordPress theme such as twenty-sixteen.

Let me know how that goes.

    Best regards,
    Geoff B.

    Hey Geoff,

I was able to Change the colors finally. There were color settings in two places. Your right, the Avada theme overwrites everything. So some settings were in the Customize section under appearance. The other settings was under Avada theme options in a couple of places. So I got the calendar colors the way that I want them.

    1. Now I am working on creating and testing out events and setting those up. I do have questions that I hope you can help me with.
Maybe direct me to some literature if you guys have it. When I am creating a new event, there is a section called, custom fields with a columns named “NAME” and “VALUE”. Are these fields editable with the free version? Doesn’t seem so. It looks like I can add new ones under the Add New Custom Field but not change or update existing ones.

    2. What are these fields for? Do you guys have a breakout sheet somewhere that explains what each custom field does, and available settings for each? Example would be pyre_page_title_bar_bg_full with a setting of default.

    3. Also, when you create a event with a feature image, then you view the event, there is this bar of some sort that is either placed above or below the image based on size of image. The bar is some light gray color, that is see-through sort of with white letters with the date of the event and title. Is there a way to manipulate this? Can it be moved into another position? Also is there a way to add other content to this event page, such as buttons, containers and elements?

    Regards,

    Jason

    Good afternoon Jason,

    Thank you for your answer.

I am glad to hear you were able to get the colors to display just the way you wanted them to. Kudos!

I would like to answer your other questions:

When I am creating a new event, there is a section called, custom fields with a columns named “NAME” and “VALUE”. Are these fields editable with the free version? Doesn’t seem so. It looks like I can add new ones under the Add New Custom Field but not change or update existing ones.

This is a good question. The custom fields you just mentioned are not specific to the Events Calendar .

They are most likely “system generated” fields (either from your theme or some other plugin).

In any case, I would recommend not touching these.

If you are looking for additional fields, you might want to take a look at our the Events Calendar Pro premium add-on which offers an easy to use version of these that integrates with our calendar nicely: https://theeventscalendar.com/product/wordpress-events-calendar-pro/

    2. What are these fields for? Do you guys have a breakout sheet somewhere that explains what each custom field does, and available settings for each? Example would be pyre_page_title_bar_bg_full with a setting of default.

These fields contain data that are used by a variety of plugins and by some themes.
Unless you have a specific use for them AND you know what you are doing, I would recommend not touching these. In fact, you can hide them using the “Screen options” located at the top right of your screen.

The gray bar is specific to the WordPress theme you are using.

Just to set expectations, as you might know, the scope of our support is mostly to get our customers started on the right track and to help them in case of issues.

We unfortunately do not provide complete support for customization (including theme styling).

With that in mind, you might want to read this to get a sense of how to tweak styles to your liking: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/using-google-chrome-developer-tools/

You can change all of that with some CSS rules (I would recommend Google-ing it up)

As for containers and other elements, my best recommendation would be to consider using a page builder plugin (e.g.: Visual Composer).

This will let you control the content of your events like a pro.

    Have a good weekend,

    Geoff B.

Thank you sir. One last question. Can you check this site out real quick and tell me if they used the free or pro version to get this style or look. Too be honest I found out terrible news today about my finances and there is no way i can now afford a pro license. I am a cancer patient and my site is just a tiny christian site so people can fellowship with each other online who are stuck in a hospital or at home. Right now i have only two events or services, which is not much of anything. Just need a standard calendar to post the dates of the two events each week with times. Nothing else is really needed. Just would like to make it look nice to get people interested in joining. Thank you for all your time and effort you have given me.

    Good afternoon Jason,

I just went and checked the example you provided.
This site looks like it is only running the Free version with a little bit of CSS customization (custom fonts and transparency on the background-color).

I totally understand where you are coming from. Just to clarify, the Pro version does not offer a different appearance (that mostly depends on the theme you are using). But it does provide you with additional views and features (e.g.: recurring events).

I cannot promise anything, but you might want to apply for our non profit program (you just never know): https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/do-you-offer-discounts-for-nonprofit-organizations/

    Best of luck with everything!

    Have a great day!

Thank you sir. Yeah I really do not need the added stuff, only thing cool are the short codes you get with the pro version. Maybe if my site gets bigger with more activity, which I hope, it may be worth it. I am going to look into that non profit sign up for sure. I appreciate you telling me about that.

I kind of figured it was more a CSS thing. I am just learning coding now, so I am very new to it. I just learned about the chrome developer tool, which is going to help me. The avada theme I am not too happy with though. There settings over write pretty much all plug in settings and there stuff looks worse, i think. I have a ticket opened with them to see if they can show me how to turn theirs off and use your settings. Who knows. If I didn’t pay for their theme I would have used another one.

Please close ticket if their is one and thank you..

    Good evening Jason,

Awesome to hear that you are on your way to becoming a CSS ninja!

You are right. The Avada theme does include several customizations and even their own the Events Calendar customizer (on top of the one found under Appearance > Customize).

If that can help, even the toughest CSS rules can typically be overridden with the use of the !important element. I recommend googling it up.

You are welcome back in our support forums any time 🙂

For now, I am going to close this thread.

    Have a great week!

    Geoff B.
