ParticipantI’m having a number of issues with community events.
-
I’m no longer receiving emails when someone submits an event through my community calendar. I tried deleting, re-entering and saving my email but it’s not working.
-
I have had a number of people complain they are unable to log in and that they get errors. I haven’t been keeping diligent track of all cases as they’ve happened sporadically but I got another complaint today and I decided it’s time to start keeping track. The customer said : “I set up a user name and password. When I tried to login, it told me the password was wrong and now it’s directing me to a screen that only says “error”. I did the password reset but haven’t received an email. ” How can ensure a better user experience?

MemberHi Jennifer!
Thanks for getting in touch with us! Let me help you troubleshoot those issues.
I think the two issues could relate to an emails issue. Are you receiving other emails from your site?
I noticed you are using WP Mail SMTP plugin, could you please verify if you have any logs for the emails being sent by your site?
Please let me know about it.
Thanks,

ParticipantHi,
I was having email issues and not receiving them. I got that sorted out within the last day and now I’m getting emails on events so I believe that is resolved unless you’re seeing something else on your end?
The issue of people having trouble logging in still seems to be looming. Any ideas what’s going on there?
Also, the calendar is pretty slow loading. Suggestions to improve speed?

MemberHi Jennifer!
Thanks for following up with this.
Glad to know you could solve the email issues. I had a close look at your system information and couldn’t find anything strange that would indicate an error, so you should be good.
I’m not really sure what could be when the users “complain they are unable to log in and that they get errors”. Did they mention any specific error or problem they were having?
Regarding the slow down in performance, we have a great article that will get you started on Performance Considerations you should know about. After that, if you decide to implement a caching system then you can move to these articles: Caching: What, when and how and Caching month view HTML in transients
Finally, there is a good article George put up here that groups a set of developer plugins. It’s a bit more technical than the others but will definitely be of help if you are into development.
I hope that helps. Let me know if any follow up questions.

ParticipantThey did not provide any specifics they just said they had received an error and couldn’t log in. Like I said, I haven’t been tracking closely so I will start doing that going forward. In the meantime, I will read the documentation on optimization. Thank you!

ParticipantI actually just received a screen shot from a user that has not been able to login in consistently. Here is a shot of the error she’s getting. Any idea what’s causing this?

MemberHi Jennifer!
My guess is that user is being blocked by the iThemes Security plugin you are using, because they had too many invalid requests.
I’ve just checked the iThemes Security plugin readme (https://wordpress.org/plugins/better-wp-security/) and it has that functionality built in:
“Prevents brute force attacks by banning hosts and users with too many invalid login attempts”
You should try looking into this plugin’s documentation and see if there is a setting to enable/disable this functionality or if it logs the users being blocked somewhere so you can have some info.
Hope it helps 🙂

KeymasterHey there! This thread has been pretty quiet for the last three weeks, so we’re going to go ahead and close it to avoid confusion with other topics. If you’re still looking for help with this, please do open a new thread, reference this one and we’d be more than happy to continue the conversation over there.
Thanks so much!
