ParticipantHi all… hoping you can help.
Is there a way I can create an event that is held on multiple, but not consecutive days?
As an example we have an “Outdoor leadership” event that is held on January 1st, February 9th and March 7th. No recurrence or pattern to the days.
Any help appreciated.

ParticipantHey Rob,
Thanks for reaching out to us!
This is definitely possible. There are a couple of different approaches that you can take with this though. Here is a quick example that should get you what you’re looking for. It’s a bit convoluted but should get the job done for you.
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks!

ParticipantHi Josh,
That’s indeed a bit convoluted solution to say the least 🙁
Why not simply add a “Date” entry in the recurrence rule? If there’s a date entry for the exclusions, why wouldn’t that work also for the “inclusions”? I have for instance an event (not an isolated case, unfortunately…), that takes place every year, but on different dates (day and month) each time. In this case I have to create a new instance of the same event for each recurrence, which is a loss of time (and server space) since I purchased the PRO version for its “recurrence” feature.
Since one can add as many specific date exclusions as he/she wishes (ex: exclude March 28th 2016, April 17th 2017, April 2nd 2018, April 22nd 2019, and so on), it should be pretty easy to have the exact same feature embedded in the recurrence rule (ex: “once”, “every day”, “every week”, “every month”, “custom” and “DATE”).
Without this feature, I can’t use Event Calendar PRO. I have too many “random” recurring events.
Any help (+ an update in a very near future) would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

ParticipantYes Nicolas that’s what I was hoping for too.
I had a requirement for a single event to have multiple (and multi-day) occurrences. So one event but running 1st-3rd March, 7th-10th April and 9th June. Very tricky currently – a recurrence by date-range would be really helpful.
I haven’t used any of the check-in type features so maybe it would impact these.
Cheers all

ParticipantVery tricky indeed, but worst of all, this convoluted way around does not work. I’ve tested it for an event that takes place once a year between 2016 and 2022.
In my example, first day of event is 2016-03-25 and last day 2016-03-28.
Recurrences:
An event every 1 year(s) in April on the second Friday that lasts 3 day(s) and 8.99 hour(s), the last of which will begin on 2017-04-18
An event every 1 year(s) in March on the last Friday that lasts 3 day(s) and 8.99 hour(s), the last of which will begin on 2018-04-03
An event every 1 year(s) in April on the third Friday that lasts 3 day(s) and 8.99 hour(s), the last of which will begin on 2019-04-23
An event every 1 year(s) in April on the second Friday that lasts 3 day(s) and 8.99 hour(s), the last of which will begin on 2020-04-14and so on…
What happens with this convoluted solution is that all the above events accumulate over the sole year of 2016, and not once a year between 2016 and 2020!
Instead of having an event that takes place once a year (starts 2016) and recurs every year until 2020, I have a succession of events that spread from 2016-03-25 and then every week end of April 2016 (2016-04-18, 2016-04-03, 2016-04-23, 2016-04-14).I’ve literally lost a day working on this issue, and haven’t been able to find a solution, when a recurrence by date-range feature would be the most OBVIOUS and easiest way around.
Without a recurrence by date-range feature, the pro version of the plugin is useless to me, as I anyway have to create individual recurrences myself for each year (one recurrence = create a copy of the same event).
Other calendar plugin like http://wpsleek.com/blog/2014/09/11/pro-event-calendar-demo/ offer the recurrence by date-range feature + map for $23.
I truly expected more from an $80 plugin. Apparently, I was wrong.

ParticipantHey Nicolas,
Thanks for reaching out to us! I apologize for any confusion there may have been about the way the custom occurrence may have worked.
In regards to yearly recurrences, there are a couple of things you’ll want to make sure of when creating those. First, you’ll want to update your main event settings tab to create recurring events in advance for longer than 24 months. If that is left at default, you’ll only get your recurrence for the first and second year.
Secondly, when creating the recurrence, make sure you’ve got the custom setting for “will end on” and set to a date after the last recurrence in your series.
If you would like, we would also like to hear from you on our UserVoice page about the expected behavior or functionality associated with our recurring events feature.
Thanks!
