GuestI’d like to use The Events Calendar for our website instead of the current cumbersome one we use. If I do change will it be a problem migrating new and archived events already created in the old Events plugin???

MemberGood evening Joel and welcome to the Events Calendar forum!
Thank you for your interest in our products and we’ll be glad to answer your questions.
Without knowing which Events plugin you are using, it’s difficult to give you a proper answer, but I would love to be able to 🙂
As long as your current plugin allows you to export events in ics (Google / Apple Calendars) you should be able to import them in the Events Calendar using one of our premium plugins: https://theeventscalendar.com/product/ical-importer/
If you are able to export your events in a csv format, then you can use our built-in CSV importer to import all of your events in the Events Calendar.
Let me know if that helps.
Have a great day!

GuestThanks for getting back Geoff. Maybe this will help you give me an answer as to whether i can move my existing events to “The Events Calendar”.
I am using WordPress, the latest version, 4.4.2 running the Twenty Twelve theme. The “Events” widget is currently installed and is not allowing me to link to other sidebars. I have a couple years of archived events that I don’t want to lose if I convert. I can’t seem to find out whether or how “Events” would let me export the archived files. I’m not high tech so need detailed instructions if it can be done. Thanks for your help.

MemberGood afternoon Joel,
Thank you for getting back to me with more details.
I would be happy to guide you through the export procedure. However, at this point I am still unsure exactly what event plugin you are using.
The best way to figure that out is to go log in your website’s backend and look for the Plugins menu (on the left hand side).
Once you reach that page, look for your Events plugin. More specifically, look for the section that provides the plugin name, the version number, the author and sometimes a link that is titled Visit plugin website.
If you could provide me that information, that would be awesome and very helpful so that I can help you in return.
Have a great day!

MemberGood evening Joel,
Thank you for providing more details.
It looks like the plugin author is not very supportive of that question (it was asked several times without any answer).
It also looks like somebody forked the plugin (made their own version of it) that includes the ability to export the events to a .ics file.
As you can imagine, I cannot guarantee anything, but after you have made a backup of everything (plugin and database), it would be worth overwriting the current event plugin with this one and see if you are indeed able to export.
Worst case scenario, you can alway roll back to the previous version.
If it does work as promised, then you would be able to import the said .ics file to our plugin using our awesome iCal importer premium plugin.
I wish I had a better answer for you, but for now it’s the best one I have.
Let me know if that helps.
Have a great day!
