ParticipantI’ve read other posts and knowledgebase article on this issue.
The snippets to adjust the mobile break point do not work, but the one to kill mobile display completely does.
I need to have working month view on all devices, so killing mobile isn’t an option.
I did get the dots — well, actually the date #’s — to open up the events on the full size screen, but only by activating the day view as well as month and list. Not ideal. On the phone, the “dots” open event right below the month calendar. With day view activated, clicking the date takes me out of month view, and opens a new window with the day’s events. Not ideal.
I’m wondering if some code in EC (not PRO) 4.07 has changed so that the function to adjust the mobile breakpoint needs to be slightly different from what is posted in KnowledgeBase and in Forum?
It would be really helpful if KnowledgeBase articles mentioned what version of the software they apply to, or even a date as to when the article was written, or checked.
I have several other sites running EC 4.07 where month view is behaving, but all use the same theme, and I’ve disabled plugins and still don’t find a solution that works for newburykayak.com/events. I even switched to Twenty-Fifteen and tried applying the functions.php snippets there, to no avail.

MemberGood evening Barbara and welcome back!
Thank you for reaching out to us.
I would love to help you with this topic. The snippets to adjust the mobile break point do not work, but the one to kill mobile display completely does.
Hmmm, that is indeed very odd, but I will take your word for it. That being said, would you mind sharing what happens when you use the snippet ?

Still very strange behaviour. Is it possible you have some template customization at play here ? In any case, if all else fails, you could hide the extra unnecessary views using CSS.
On the phone, the “dots” open event right below the month calendar. With day view activated, clicking the date takes me out of month view, and opens a new window with the day’s events. Not ideal.
Once again, I have to agree with you. This is less ideal, especially considering that opening a new window is not standard behaviour of our code on mobile.
If you temporarily revert to a default WordPress theme such as twenty-fifteen with no customization, you will see what the default behaviour should be.

Not to my knowledge. However, each new version of TEC does change a lot of the code.
In short, this means that you will potentially need to revisit your customizations found under the /tribe-events folder of your WordPress theme to match the latest version of the code (including getting rid of deprecated functions).
In other words, every update can potentially break customizations.
It would be really helpful if KnowledgeBase articles mentioned what version of the software they apply to, or even a date as to when the article was written, or checked.
That is a great point. Just like customization, some of our Knowledge base articles can “break” after certain updates. When that’s the case, the articles are flagged as such and repaired as soon as possible.
By default, they should apply to the latest versions available. As an example, I just tested out the mobile Breakpoint snippet and it works great on a default WordPress theme.

I am very sorry to hear that. It does look like there is some sort of issue with the theme you are using.
As much as we try our best to be compatible with as many WordPress themes out there, alas sometimes we fall short since there are so many of them.
The surprising part to me is that you cannot get twenty-fifteen to work, since I just tried that successfully.
This might be a shot in the dark, but have you tried changing the settings under Events -> Settings -> Display (Default stylesheet used for events templates) ?
Let me know how that goes.

All show the monthly calendar with only dots. When You click the dot, nothing happens, When you click the date (#) a new window opens with the day view.
If I narrow my browser window to phone size, then clicking the dot, opens the events below the month grid.
I have disabled all plugins except The Events Calendar, and still have the same behavior.
I’d like to try re-installing The Events Calendar, as I don’t have this issue on other sites. If I delete the software so I can try a fresh install, will I also lose the events I have entered?

MemberHey Barbara,
Thank you for trying things out.
Your results absolutely indicate that there is something fishy at play.To rephrase, perhaps I should have said “if you try this on a clean install, you should see a very different behaviour”.
In any case, this might be tricky to pinpoint considering the nature of the issues. So I absolutely appreciate your patience while we work on figuring out what the root cause is.
I think the next logical step would indeed be to reinstall the plugins.
Before you try anything, it is always recommended to do a complete backup (DB and plugins) of course (in case you need to revert back to it).To ensure you are not losing anything, if you are confortable with the procedure I would recommend just overwriting the current files via FTP.
There is also something else I thought about. Since you are using Wordfence, is it possible you have the Cache option turned on ?
Let me know how that goes.
Best regards,

ParticipantTurned off all plugins except The Events Calendar and then got proper month display on large screens with 2013, 2014, and 2015 themes. Turned plugins on one at a time and found the culprit: WP Social SEO Booster — an old, unsupported plugin my client must have installed themselves.
Leaving that deactivated, I went back to my theme and got the calendar to display properly. (I had to remove the snippet I had put in, following posts on this site.)

MemberGood afternoon Barbara,
I am super stoked that you managed to find the culprit. Kudos to you!
Have a good week-end,
