Modifying the Event Calendar widget CSS

So I thought I new my way around CSS but this one has me stumped. I’m trying to edit the CSS so that on days when there are events, the full td cell/square corresponding to that date changes colors – not just the actual number. I’d love a point in the right direction – non of my attempts have been successful.
