ParticipantI’ve updated to the 3.8.1 both free and Pro versions of the Events Calendar plugin and have some odd behavior.
Backend troubles:
In the admin side, the “Events Categories” submenu is missing it’s text. There is just a gap between Tags and Venues, I can click on that gap and get to the Events Categories menu, but I’m wondering where that text is setup and how it could have gone missing.
Also missing is ‘Event Categories’ from the Edit Menus page. I see events and can make menu items for specific events, but can no longer add menu items to show categories.
Front End troubles:
On the existing menu links I had beforehand that worked with Event Categories they are now showing all events in the database regardless of the current category.
Seems like a file didn’t overwrite correctly in the update, but I could use some help on where to look.
UPDATE: I’ve updated to 3.9 but the issue persists.

ParticipantHello wkerslake,
Thanks for reaching out to us!
This definitely sounds like a strange issue to be having. Would you be able to send over screenshots of the issues you’re noting. I’ve looked on my local install however based on the description I’m not seeing the same issues you’re noting.
A couple of quick questions to see if we can help to find the root of the problem:
- <span style=”line-height: 13px;”>Are you using a translation file translating the strings into another language in your install? It may be that the translation file has an error and is putting out empty strings. </span>
- Have you tried following our Testing for Conflicts procedures to see if this is due to a plugin or theme conflict?
I’m sorry I wasn’t able to give you a direct response however I hope this was able to point you in the right direction.
Thanks!

ParticipantMissing Event Categories

Looking at the source of the menu the link is filled in but not the title

Turning off all other plug-ins didn’t help unfortunately.

ParticipantHello wkerslake,
Thanks for following up with us and providing the screenshots!
That’s definitely very strange issue. A couple of further thoughts:
- If you’re concerned about files not being overwritten properly in update, I would suggest uploading all plugin files manually using FTP. You can download the core files directly from WordPress as well as the pro files from your account here.
- There could also be potential conflict with the “tribe_events_cat” taxonomy. It would be rare, but I wonder if the theme or another plugin is attempting to register the same taxonomy? You mentioned that you disabled other plugins, did you happen to disable the theme and use a default WordPress theme?
Let me know if this helps.
Thanks!

ParticipantUninstalled and reinstalled the plugin and my problems persist. As a quick test I installed the plugin on a different clean wordpress installation and everything was fine. I’m going to assume there is a issue somewhere in the database itself. Any idea on how best to find what it wrong?

ParticipantAh… good call on the theme. Switching to a default one and the menus are fine.
Seems someone was trying to do tricky things in functions in the theme to customize the output, and those hacks aren’t compatible with ver 3.9. Commented them out for now and proper functionality has returned.
Thanks for the help.
