Mini Cal Widget: Fast forward to the next upcoming event work with shortcode?

I have run into an issue with the following shortcode:

[tribe_mini_calendar]

and using this customization:

https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/fast-forward-list-widget-to-next-upcoming-event/

Seems as though the fast forward will only work when the widget is placed traditionally, and not with the shortcode. Do you know this to be true? Just curious if it is just my issue.

I looked into this and it is true it only works with the traditional widget and not with the shortcode.
