ParticipantIf you visit the month view https://cityofwinterpark.org/events/month/ and browse the events you will see that the site name is lost and there’s only the title and the separator on the browser window title (meta title).
How can I preserve the site name on the meta title?
Thanks for helping.

MemberHi Daniel,
Normally that shouldn’t happen.
For some reason – in the case of your site – the title is returned when you navigate from month to month but is missing the actual site name.
Looking at your site there are two likely culprits:
- You seem to be running an SEO plugin (WordPress SEO?) … if you temporarily deactivate this, do the titles behave as expected?
- It could alternatively be that your theme has some title-specific logic that is tripping things up – if the first step doesn’t reveal anything, can you try switching, temporarily, to a default theme and see if that helps?
If neither of the above provide any useful information it may then be worth running through our complete troubleshooting steps, but let’s start with some lighter troubleshooting as detailed above first of all 🙂
Let me know how you get on!

ParticipantYes, I’m running the latest version of WordPress SEO.
Yes, I tried disabling the plugin (SEO) completely and that did not seem to fix the issue with the titles. I also changed the separator on the plugin to a dash and once you start browsing the calendar it adds the pipe at the end without the site name.
Thanks.

MemberOK, and were you able to try further troubleshooting steps such as switching to a default theme/our complete steps as described here?

ParticipantI can’t do that on the production environment and at this time I don’t have a dev environment yet.
Thanks.

MemberOK: the problem doesn’t seem to surface in a clean environment and it’s not something we see widespread reports of (when issues like this do crop up, it’s invariably a conflict of some kind so pinning down where it might be occurring here is a logical next step).
Let’s leave this open for the time being and if you have an opportunity to test further we can take things from there 🙂

ParticipantIt appears that this happens only when using the ajax methods to load months. When you look view source, the site name remains in the title.
You can see the issue is with other sites too: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/page-title-changing-to-undefined-when-using-ajax-links?replies=2 so it is just not with my site.

MemberFor sure – but that doesn’t help us to pin down the source in your specific case.
For instance, kasia_codeword (the user in the other topic you linked to) may be impacted by a problem caused by a plugin that you may not even use – and it may be triggering the problem by some means that are quite different to whatever is causing the issue on your site.
Not to mention, the symptoms are subtly different: whereas your post titles still retain the single event title (but drop the site name) hers drop both and change to “undefined”. So perhaps in her case there is a Javascript-angle to the problem, but in yours I suspect it is a server-side issue.
If we can figure out what’s responsible, though, we can move forward with possible solutions or at the very least can hopefully point you in the right direction.
All that to say, yes, I’ve no doubt there are other sites out there with similar-looking problems relating to single event titles – but let’s not be too hasty in assuming they are all the same and have a common cause 🙂

ParticipantI didn’t say or was assuming the other user’s (kasia_codeword) issue is the same as my issue. All I’m saying is that I found a related issue that could possibly help you think of something to help me with my issue. That was all.
I do understand while similar the issues may not be the same but they may trigger troubleshooting steps that you may have not thought before.

MemberFor sure – it was definitely worth highlighting – but in this case I think we’re basically looking at two separate problems (albeit they both impact the single event titles).
