Just starting another thread here (as follow up to this one https://tri.be/support/forums/topic/pins-not-showing-up-on-map/#post-115699).

Apart from the first couple of responses, my host (TSO Host) have been quite helpful in this instance and have suggested that the maps issue (not all markers showing, geolocation data not being picked up for some venues, some showing coordinates of 0,0…) is possibly down to being over quota for Google Maps API?

According to the host the data is being pulled in okay.

Could this be the case do you think?

    Sian,
Thanks for getting in touch! It seems that the map is working correctly on your site now, and pins are displaying (screenshot). Please let me know if you’re still experiencing this issue, and send me a screenshot if so. Thanks! 🙂

    Hi Casey,

    Thanks for your reply.

My host moved the site to a cpanel account in the end (away from cloud shared account) to see if that fixed the problem, but I’m still seeing the same issues with the map. Here’s the development / test site that they set up: http://dev2.chelseafringe.com/.

So I’ve just tested the map / location search functionality again and I’m still seeing the same 0,0 co-ordinate issues.

To recreate, please search for events in London, E2 (where there are lots of events) and those that don’t have coordinates show up at the bottom of the list as being, for example, 5729.67 kms away from E2.

On the map they appear at 0,0 – obviously there’s more than one at the same co-ordinate because this varies as to which event appears on ‘top’ (here’s a screenshot: https://www.dropbox.com/s/y33gssnsc4pu8kr/Screen%20Shot%202014-03-12%20at%2014.30.13.png)

The error log i can access from cPanel shows nothing.

Could maps API quota be the issue? What else can I try?!

    Howdy Sian,

Thanks for opening a new topic!

It definitely could be related to rate limits. After a bit of research it seems that Google limits there requests based on IP. So if you are on a shared server, and another site on the server is reaching the usage limit you would get an incorrect response.

Them moving you to a virtual server likely gave you a dedicated IP. In which case you should no longer encounter this issue unless you are editing or adding thousands of events each day. To fix old events go in and edit them then resave, I think that will correct the issue. If not, you might change the address, save, then change it back to the proper one.

Does that all make sense? Would you mind testing it for me and see if the new server fixed it? We are a bit limited in how far we can help you with your unique hosting environment, but I hope my advice thus far will go a long way toward helping you fix it. Cheers!

    Hi Brook,

    Yes, that did it! 🙂

I had to resave all the venues on this server in fact. Sometimes as you say, I had to edit and save twice for it to take effect but I no longer have weird 0,0 co-ordinates.

    Thank you,

    Sian

That is excellent news! Thank you for posting the resolution. I will share it with others should we encounter a similar issue. Glad to hear TSOHost is fully compatible.
