ParticipantCan’t figure out why map view doesn’t show events? It defaults to the coast of Africa, and when I zoom over to my location (Clarksdale, MS), no events are there either.

Can anyone help?

MemberHi Chris, and welcome to the forums!
Sorry for the trouble here with Map View. I see what you mean: the default point for the view is in Africa and there are no upcoming events listed.
I have seen this come up before and it was the result of the map (or rather the Google Maps API) being unable to pinpoint the coordinates of the event’s venue address.
If you head over to Events > Settings, there is a section called Map Settings. In there is a button that says “Fix venues data.” Please click that, refresh your Map View and see if that makes a difference. If it does, great!
If it doesn’t then head over Events > Venues. If you click Edit on one of the venues, there is an option to use latitude and longitude coordinates (screenshot). Click on that option for each venue, confirm the coordinates, save the venue, then see if that makes a difference.
Let’s start there and see what we find. 🙂
Cheers!

ParticipantThanks for your reply! When using latitude and longitude, the map then finds the location and lists the event. Is there any way around having to look that up for each venue? If you click on any of the venues and go to their pages, the google map correctly displays the venue location. Strange that it works there but not on the Map view of the calendar. I think we are getting closer..

MemberAwesome, I’m so glad that worked! Thanks for following up and confirming,. 🙂
Map View relies totally on the Google Maps API to display events on the map and in the upcoming list below it. We added the coordinate option to force the Google Maps API to focus on a specific point when it gets confused. That’s the best solution The Events Calendar can provide, but it might be worth checking that the addresses being entered are as specific as possible, down to the 4-digit postal code. You may also include the coordinates when creating venues to ensure the map displays them when used.
Thanks again for following up!
