I lost my entire website with 209 advertisers by clicking on the Events Calendar Pro plugin update in the WP plug-in control panel.
It wiped out, not just the plugin, but my entire website. I type in our URL – lostinaustin.org and get the error message:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare tribe_is_community_my_events_page() (previously declared in /home/wwwroot/listify/wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar/src/functions/template-tags/query.php:67) in /home/wwwroot/listify/wp-content/plugins/the-events-calendar-community-events/src/functions/template-tags.php on line 13

I can’t even access WP to deactivate anything.

Hey Will. I received the same error. However, after updating the Community Events plugin, the error disappeared and things were back to normal. 🙂 Eric

I have just had the same problem after upgrading to version 4.00 of Event Calendar. I would try upgrading the Community plugin as suggested to see if it solves it, but how can I do that? I cannot get to my WordPress admin back-end, so how would I activate the Community plugin upgrade even if I installed it to the plugin directory via FTP?

At the moment the site is down with Fatal error: Cannot redeclare tribe_is_community_my_events_page()…. etc and I have no idea what to do next.

I downloaded the latest version of the community plugin (4.0) from my The Events Calendar account, and then I replaced the existing plugin folder via ftp. That was the only way that I could do it. Like you, I couldn’t get around the error.

When you replace a plugin via ftp, you do not have to activate the plugin because, according to the error, it was active when you updated the Events Calendar plugin.

Thanks for this. I had the same problem this morning after updating the plugin, but uploading the new version using FTP worked and the site is back and working.

Eric – that worked. Shame there was such a hassle over this plugin update, but very grateful for the advice here.

I have had similar errors in the past if I updated the plugins individually. What I now do is check all the boxes for each Events Calendar plugin that needs to be updated, then do a Bulk Update so they are all handled at the same time. Otherwise, one plugin gets updated but the others are at the old level and this blows its little mind.

    Hi,

    Sorry for the issues here.

If you update The Events Calendar to 4.0 and leave Community Events at 3.12.x or earlier it will break the site.

Unfortunately, the only way to fix it is to access the files of you site and delete the older version of Community Events.

That will bring your site back and then you can download the latest version of Community Events from your account here and manually upload it to your site.

We also have this guide for manual updates:

    Brian,

I guess my issue is that this information was not in the announcement you sent out this morning about v4. Had you simply said “you must update the Community plugin first,” then the issue would have been avoided. Without such a warning I suspect many people will have gone straight to their WP Admin panel and clicked ‘update’. Hopefully they will have backed up first, but to have the whole site come down and the hassle that causes is not so good….

This is getting stupid: followed Eric’s advice above to install the new v4 of Community plugin, and yes, my site came back up. Just looked at the plugins and Community Events was there, but not activated. So I clicked to activate it and the whole thing has crashed again, same error – Fatal error: Cannot redeclare tribe_is_community_my_events_page()

Can Brian or someone from support tell us exactly what to do?

    1) I have Events Calendar, Events Calendar Pro and Community Events plugins installed.
    2) Upgrading Events Calendar this morning crashed the site.
    3) Eric’s solution was to install new version of Community Events via FTP as Woprdpress was down
    4) Did that and it worked – site and WordPress back
    5) Community Events needs to be activated to work, so did that. Crashed the site again

So what is the right way to get this all working? Uninstall Events Calendar completely, then re-install Community Events via FTP, activate it, and only then re-install Events Calendar?

Hi Tom. Sorry that you are having issues. It may be that you’ll need to completely remove the community events plugin via ftp, and then upload the new folder. After you replaced the plugin folder, did your site acknowledge the community events plugin as version 4.0?

The only time I had a similar issue as yours is with my shared server. I mainly work on dedicated. However, I remember a situation when I had to remove any caching files before replacing the plugin. :p

Eric, thank you for monitoring this. I couldn’t swear as to what version of Community Events was when I looked at the WP-Admin, though it was definitely v4 we downloaded and installed via FTP.

I will try removing and re-installing Community events via FTP.

I was thinking the best thing might be to remove and re-install all the Event Manager plugins in order to start again – the base plugin, Pro and Community Events – but is it safe to presume the considerable amount of event data that has been entered will be safe if I do that?

Maybe I should go and have a coffee and leave it until someone from EM gives a definitive solution.
