ParticipantI’m trying to get the widget to work like the one on the following site…http://gamecenter.channelfireball.com/. Basically, it is a big list of events, with the events grouped with under each date (without the date info repeated), and that can expand to the event that someone needs. The expansion (and scrollbar) is very desired since it allows us to get all the upcoming event information in an efficient but accessible space. (it is using an old google calendar-centric plugin http://wordpress.org/plugins/stout-google-calendar/screenshots/ ).
A) Is this possible to do by modifying the widgets that come with Event Calendar Pro?
B) Is there any repository or location where people are sharing modified widgets so that I might be able to find something close to what I need.
C) Are there any easy ways to have the event calendar entries synced with a Google Calendar?July 9, 2013 at 11:22 am #54064Barry
MemberHi!

Yes, absolutely it is or you could even code your own widget to do this.
B) Is there any repository or location where people are sharing modified widgets so that I might be able to find something close to what I need.
All I can suggest is searching the usual places, such as the plugin repo at wordpress.org, GitHub and Sourceforge.
C) Are there any easy ways to have the event calendar entries synced with a Google Calendar?
It depends on what you mean by easy. Google does make APIs available for this sort of thing, so if you are comfortable working with those you will probably be able to achieve pretty much whatever you want here š

ParticipantI’m not a coder, so there is a big leap between modifying options and rolling my own. In terms of the second answer, I guess the bigger question is what widgets work with the event data that is generated by the Events Calendar? Frankly, it’s unclear to me if this is a “standard” data set for events that other calendar widgets could use, or if (more likely) the events created are in a format unique to The Events Calendar, so that what I’m looking for are modifications of the existing widgets or a third party who has coded their own but is pulling specifically from your data set.
For now, is there an easy way to remove the Calendar part of the Calendar Widget? The list that comes with that view is much closer to what I want.
Finally, is there a way to try and find someone to code this up for me. I’m a single person retail shop, so money is a fairly big issue, but I really need this.
Since the modification of the Events Calendar widget is such a selling feature, I was hoping that there was some shared repository or place for exchange of such modifications so that we are not all starting from scratch each time if there is someone else who has done what we are looking for.
I found a few things on Github that were over 6 months old.

MemberI would think it unlikely that you will find a generic widget. The Events Calendar uses custom post types, like many other plugins, but the additional meta data it uses to model individual events is likely to be very different from the structures used by comparable plugins.

Have you considered using the List widget, which lists upcoming events without a calendar grid?

Definitely.
We don’t take on things like this ourselves, but there are plenty of good WP devs available on elance.com and other freelancer networks – you can detail what you want and pick the most suitable bid for you budget.

That’s a great idea, and a number of extensions are indeed available on wordpress.org/plugins – but that isn’t to say there are going to be a plethora of plugins that meet your specific needs. We cannot I’m afraid force people to share their code – though plenty do, whether on wordpress.org, GitHub, directly here in the forum or elsewhere – such as on their own blogs.
