Location Search

I’ve added several events and I’m using venues. The venues have been entered and generally just aded as “City” and “State” i.e. Detroit, MI
When I do a location search for say, Detroit, I get a drop down asking me to select a location; I select Detroit, MI and get no results – despite having several events in Detroit, MI.

Any Ideas?
I turned off all plugging (except events and bb press) and reset to 2012 to test functionality; I got the same result.

Sorry for the troubles here on the Location Search, but I can help you out with this.

I took a look at your site(looks nice!) and could see the problem.

The dropdown example you give is correct on how it works. So that part is fine.

So the problem is no results are returning.

I went to the map view too and that is not working on my console should a 404 error. So I have two steps that can help narrow down this problem:

Step 1
This may not fix it, but to at least rule it out can you please follow our 404 error guide:

Step 2
Please try deactivating Events Calendar Pro, reflushing permalinks per the guide and check the Location Search Again and see if that helps.

Please let me know what you find out from both of those steps and we can go from there to fix this.

Thanks Brian; I followed the stepson the 404 guide; I got no 404 errors. Then I disabled Events Pro as suggested, reflushed permalinks, re-enabled the plugin and tried again; Still no location search results.

That’s strange, I am still getting an error on the Map View. So something is preventing the mapping system from working.

Here is the error I am getting.

“NetworkError: 404 Not Found – http://www.automatedtrans.com/events/map/”

Debug
Can you please follow the section of the WordPress Codex Debug titled “Example wp-config.php for Debugging” on this page:

http://codex.wordpress.org/Debugging_in_WordPress

Please add that coding to your wp-config.php file.

After that please turn on debug mode in the Events Calendar.

Go to Events->Settings and in the Miscellaneous Settings at the bottom of the General Tab Please Click on Debug Mode and Save.

Please try to search the site and go to the map view a couple times and then if you can send in your next reply the information in the debug.log in the wp-content directory.

Also, please send me the information in the System Information box under Events->Help.

You can make those both private replies and we can take it from there.

Thanks for the information. I looked again at the log and it is not picking up any errors so please turn off all the debug settings and remove it from your wp-config

Since that did not find anything, I did a little more testing on the site and find when the url has this in the query string:

&tribe-bar-geoloc-lat=42.331427&tribe-bar-geoloc-lng=-83.0457538

That the site gives me a 404 error in the Developer Console.

Since there is no errors in the debug log it looks like the theme and plugins are not in conflict.

I think we should turn out attention to the hosting/server as there maybe something there that is causing it.

Do you have any extra security in the htaccess file that maybe causing this to be blocked?

Also, since it is a 404 error and the flushing the permalinks did not help I would recommend contacting your hosting and referring to this thread. They would be able to see their server logs and know if they have additional settings that could be blocking this.

Let me know what you find out from that and we can go from there to resolve this.

I took a look at the site on the new url and still getting the same 404 error on the map view.

Also, if that is the only thing in the htaccess I do not think that is causing the problem.

I still believe that your hosting service can provide the information on what we can do next to resolve this.

Have you been able to contact your host about it? I would like to hear what they have to say about the query string and if they have a setting blocking it.

I will look into this further with our developers and please let me know what your hosting service says.

Hi Martin,

I just took a look at your site and another person at Tri.be as well and we both were able to view the map and to search for locations.

Can you check to see if it is fixed for you.

I was able to do three different city searches as well and they all worked.

Please try clearing your browser cache before testing your site just incase something is in there that was from the past that might be causing it not to work.

Thanks Brian. When I go to the URL I do see all the pins on the map. It’s when I actually type a city name, i.e. “Detroit” in the “near” field than nothing comes up.
Am I missing something?

Hi, the search only finds future events and it looks like that Detroit event has already past.

Is there another event in the future that should have Detroit as the location?
