loading venues from different post type

Hi guys,

Appreciate this is probably outside the box thinking but am working up against some issues for a client and hoping this can be done.

At present I have a site with a custom post type that holds records for a bunch of venues. It has some taxonomies assigned for specific details for each venue as well. What I’m trying to now do is instead of populate the venue section of your plugin I can instead have it pull the venue listings from my already quite well populated custom venue post type and give the user the ability to interlink venue with event.

Thoughts on if this would be possible at all?

Hey Chris,

I think that would be pretty tricky. A better bet would be to convert the post types. Have you looked into any of the 3rd party post type converter plugins out there? There’s some good ones I’ve had success with: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/convert-post-types/ & http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/post-type-switcher/

Jonah I wish I could just convert the post type but there is so much tied into the theme and function of the site I just can’t afford to change it around. Hence why I was hoping there was a way to interlink them in some way. Maybe even just import a copy into your plugin to give us a populated list.

Hi Chris,

There is going to be way more that you’ll need to change around to pull in another post type into our plugin to be used as venue’s, and it will require a good amount of core modding, so you’d lose you’d need to apply the mod every time you update. Far from ideal. I’m afraid your best bet to keep our plugin working smoothly, is going to be to convert those post types.
