Hi there: I’m looking to switch over my all-in-one-event-calendar plugin and I’m considering The Events Calendar. Before going forward, I have many questions that I will try to group appropriately. Please respond at your earliest convenience. Hopefully, this will help other potential users as well. I apologize if the info is on your site already.

I think I understand from reading that there are no shortcodes or widgets available in order to add a full size calendar with select categories. Is that true?

Can you suggest a work around or other way in order to accomplish this. Unfortunately, I don’t want all my information to appear on the main calendar that is on the actual calendar page of my site.

    For example:
On the following calendar link 1, the “main” calendar page I have select categories included and on calendar link 2, I have others categories included that are not on the “main” calendar.

    calendar link 1 – http://www.great-taste.net/calendar/

    calendar link 2 – http://www.great-taste.net/calendar/today/

    Thank you,
    Teri

    Hi there!

Thanks so much for getting in touch–we’re thrilled to hear you’re considering making the move to our products!

It sounds like you’re wanting to maintain separate full-sized calendars for different categories of events on your site, as well as a main “master” calendar that hosts all events except for certain specific categories. Is this correct?

We have a GitHub snippet for excluding certain event categories that you may find helpful when building your main calendar:

For your category-specific calendars, category listings will default to calendar views displaying only the events within that category, making it easy to maintain and link to separate calendars for different types of events. Here’s an example category view from our demo site so you can compare the two calendars.

Does this help to answer your questions? Let me know! 🙂 Thanks again!

Thank you so much Caroline. Sorry if I was unclear.
Calendar 1 -On my current calendar plugin I have to have one calendar with all my calendar categories in order for those categories to be shown on the calendars where I want them to be shown. This calendar is not shown on the front of the site.
Calendar 2 -Then I have my main calendar where I have selected some categories using a shortcode and this shows on the frontend
Calendars 3 and on -On other pages I use other categories that may or may not be on calendar 2.

On the example you showed me it looks like those categories are selected by the user on the front end.
I need to set those categories on the backend.
Hope this explains a little better.
    Hopefully I’m understanding you correctly.

Hi again! No worries; thank you for clarifying! 🙂 It sounds like we’re on the same page here–the code snippet linked above should work well for setting up Calendar 2 from your list, while the individual calendars of Calendar 3, 4, etc. should work by simply linking to the category pages you’d like to display calendars for. You can read more about how to link to calendars from WordPress navigation menus in our Knowledgebase here, or we’d be happy to point you in the right direction if you’re looking to achieve something different with your setup!

Does that help a bit to clear things up? Let me know if you should have any other concerns!
