ParticipantWe are trying to launch the calendar feature but have some issues before we can I will list them separately. Starting with the location of the sharing & comment features on single events as seen here http://www.indiebusinessnetwork.com/event/soapmaking-101-schendel-1-17-2015/
Following the description of the event the sharing and FB comments begin. People don’t realize the map and details even exist under them because the share and comment is always the last thing on a page right?
Gotta change this, but how?
Ideally we would like to reorder the whole single event page to this:
Map and venue/org etc details fist
Then the content block currently at the top, underneath (so get the quick details then scroll to the finer details)
Then share This & comment.
This would make much more sense. BUT if this is asking too much, at the very least how do we get share and comments to the bottom of the page where they belong? Thanks!
(I have used the staging area in WPE and deactivated all plugins and themes this screenshot shows they’re still smack in the middle of the single event https://www.dropbox.com/s/v2fy0539becuvwo/Screenshot%202015-01-09%2012.08.25.png?dl=0January 9, 2015 at 9:33 am #930965Geoff
MemberHi there, Donna! Thanks for getting in touch–and love how the site is coming along. Nice work. 🙂
I see what you mean. The comments and sharing options are displayed right below the event description, then followed by the event details and map. No good!
It looks to me that the Jetpack and Facebook Comments plugins you’re using are searching for the post description, then injecting themselves right after it. The not-so-good news is that’s an issue with those plugins since they are taking it upon themselves to display where they think they should.
However, it’s possible you might be able to workaround that in two ways:
- Try switching events templates. Try heading over to Events > Settings > Display and changing the “Events template.” Do you notice a difference if you choose the “Default Events Template” and save your settings? How about a different page template from your theme?
- Try a custom template. The calendar allows you to override any of the template and roll your own layout. For example, you can override the single-event.php template and position elements the way you see fit. In this case, you may want to move the the details and map modules above the description, which would force the comments and sharing options to the end.
If you choose to roll your own template, I’d suggest checking out our Themer’s Guide. This will thoroughly explain the process and is the best place to start.
Sorry I don’t have more of a concrete solution to offer here, but hopefully this helps shed some light and points you in the right direction. 🙂
Cheers!

ParticipantWe did try the other styles nothing changes. Has no one else had issue with comment and sharing being smack in the middle of an event? Is it just me who finds this an odd location? Or am I the only one wanting events to be shared and commented on until now?
We’re not interested at this point in customizing a template, we’re rather happy with what we have. Is there a way to pop the bottom section up to the top, this would put comments and sharing at the bottom by default. If it still requires a custom theme can you direct me to what code is needed to make this happen (hopefully speaking in terms of a person who’s extent of PHP is to be told exactly what code to put exactly where in exactly which file, thanks)January 9, 2015 at 10:39 am #930979Geoff
MemberHi there, Donna–thanks for following up!
Has no one else had issue with comment and sharing being smack in the middle of an event?
This certainly hasn’t come up that I’ve seen. Like I mentioned, it seems like there is a conflict with how the other plugins are trying to interact with the Events post content. It certainly is an odd placement, but is ultimately the result of those plugins injecting themselves into the template–the calendar plugin has no control over that, unfortunately.
Is there a way to pop the bottom section up to the top, this would put comments and sharing at the bottom by default.
Yes, what you’re describing is the second option I suggested, which is overriding the single-event.php template to create a custom layout where you can position things as you’d like them.
If it still requires a custom theme can you direct me to what code is needed to make this happen
The Themer’s Guide is the best place to start with customizations. As far as custom development goes, that’s something that we unfortunately are unable to support here in the forums, but the Themer’s Guide should definitely get you started. We also have our full documentation available available for reference as well.
Again, sorry I don’t have specific code examples or custom solutions to provide, but hopefully these help get you started in the right direction.
Cheers!

ParticipantOk so as mentioned PHP is not my forte, I stick with CSS editing so do you have a partner list or recommended list of people you recommend for these jobs? I see someone else just asked this in the thread, but there’s no answer.

MemberSure! We have a list of freelancers who should be able to help you out with custom development. Send us an email to support [at] theeventscalendar.com and we’ll send it over. You can reference this thread for context.
Cheers!
