Participantprevious thread: https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/internal-server-error-when-trying-to-update-to-3-5-2/#post-147372
I’m still having trouble, even with deactivating all plugins and using twentytwelve theme. I’ve tried going from 3.4 to 3.5 and direct from 3.4 to 3.6. The issue is now that when I go to network activate ECP, I get a screen with these errors:
Warning: get_object_vars() expects parameter 1 to be object, null given in /home/content/60/7419160/html/wp-content/plugins/events-calendar-pro/lib/tribeeventspro-recurrenceinstance.php on line 19

MemberHi: it looks like you might be using both Community Events and Events Calendar PRO (and of course, by extension, The Events Calendar).
Owing to some code refactoring the best update experience is going to be achieved here by temporarily deactivating all three, then uploading fresh copies of each – then reactivate them.
If you don’t feel happy doing this manually you could try using automated updates and just ensure you update Community Events first of all, followed by Events Calendar PRO and then The Events Calendar itself.
Does that help?

ParticipantI don’t have Community Events installed yet on my live site. When I’ve tried updating, it has been by network deactivating both ECP and TEC, then deleting both, then uploading a downloaded copy of TEC, network activating TEC, uploading ECP and network activating ECP. It is when I attempt to network activate ECP that I have the issues.

MemberDo you currently have WP_DEBUG set to true (in your wp-config.php file) or can you find a way to temporarily turn off the display of errors? While it’s not great that warnings are being generated, I wonder if this is simply stopping the update because of the unexpected output that is creating?
Were there any other errors you didn’t quote above?

ParticipantWP_DEBUG is set to false. The errors reported above were the only ones, and they repeated multiple times on the page.
Looks like I can trt “display_errors off” in a php.ini file. I won’t be able to try to run it again until tomorrow. Working on a live site and trying to find time when I can put it into maintenance mode is tricky.
Any other suggestions of things to try?
One thing of note is that the calendar admin shows 37,000 + events, while there are only 3300 events in the wp_posts table (via phpmyadmin). My guess is that these are the duplicate events that have been created by attempts to upgrade the calendar.
I’ll post my current system info in a separate post in case that is helpful…

That is far from impossible: can you checkout this blog post, grab a copy of the cleanup plugin it links to and see if that alleviates this?

ParticipantAfter getting rid of duplicate events, adding a display_errors = off to php.ini file, I was able to get the update to complete!
Thanks for the assistance!

MemberAwesome – glad we got there and thanks for your patience while we worked through this issue 🙂
I’ll go ahead and close this, but of course if we can assist with anything else please don’t hesitate to open a new thread and one of the team will be only too happy to help.
Thanks!
