ParticipantThe license key is current and I’m getting the message that there’s an update available: “The following plugins are out of date: Events Calendar Pro. Please update now. All add-ons contain dependencies on The Events Calendar and will not function properly unless paired with the right version. Want to pair an older version?” with the links. When I click “update now,” it takes me to the Plugins section of the dashboard but there’s no link to actually update the plugin.
I’m unclear as to how to do this via FTP and have had various issues when attempting to do so.
When I try to upload the updated version of the plugin in a .zip file, I get this message: “Destination folder already exists. /home/deniseb/public_html/wp-content/plugins/events-calendar-pro/”.

MemberWhat I would recommend is backing up first of all, and familiarizing yourself with the steps required to restore that back up – just in case. I’d also suggest using a maintenance mode type plugin to prevent people from inadvertently accessing the site while you update.
To update the latest version of Events Calendar PRO by FTP, download a fresh copy and extract it locally (so on your home or office PC) .. we no longer want it to be in .zip format at this point.
Make sure you look inside the unpacked folder. What we want to avoid is uploading a directory called events-calendar-pro-2.0.10 (or similar) only to find the actual events-calendar-pro plugin directory is nested inside it.
Once you’ve got the plugin directory, use your favourite FTP client and upload it to wp-content/plugins, overwriting the existing directory.
Does that all make sense? Please just ask if you need further clarification.

ParticipantMy first question is why I was not able to update via the Dashboard – either through the automatic prompt to update the plugin or by uploading the .zip file. But actually, that’s been resolved in this particular case because when I logged in just now, the update notification was there and the update was successful.
I did the process as you’ve described via FTP last night when I originally posted this message and it wouldn’t transfer the files for some reason. It’s all working fine now, but I am wondering if I will encounter this problem again when it’s time to update.

MemberAll I can really say is let us know if it does happen again; the upgrade path isn’t always smooth for everyone for a wide variety of different reasons – but we’re happy to help if we can.
