ParticipantHi, I have a quick question about this library that you use in your plugin. http://isotope.metafizzy.com
I know that they say that you have to have a developer license to use this library. Can you confirm that you do have that license? I want to make sure we would not get in trouble if we used it on our site. I was thinking about using it in other areas of our site as well. Do you think it would just be limited to the events sections for any reason?

MemberHi Joe,
So Events Calendar PRO itself is a GPL-licensed open source project and therefore I believe we are in compliance here. Looking at their license page:
The open source license is designed for you to use Isotope to build open source and personal projects. The Isotope open source license is GPLv3. The GPLv3 has many terms, but the most important is how it is sticky when you distribute your work publicly. From the GPL FAQ:
If you release the modified version to the public in some way, the GPL requires you to make the modified source code available to the program’s users, under the GPL.
Releasing your project that uses Isotope under the GPLv3, in turn, requires your project to be licensed under the GPLv3. If you are okay with this, feel free to use Isotope under the GPLv3, without purchasing a commercial license.
They do seem to offer multiple licenses for different situations, though, as you highlighted. What I’d recommend though if you have any doubts or further concerns is that you contact the Isotope authors/support team and check in with them on this issue.
I hope that helps 🙂

ParticipantI think this helps. Thank you for looking into this for me. Do you think that using it on a client website is considered open source or a personal project?

MemberWhether it’s a personal project or not only you can judge 🙂
Events Calendar PRO as a whole remains a GPL-licensed, open source project, however, so I don’t think you’re in any grave danger here – but if you have any further doubts or misgivings about your use of that particular component of the plugin it really would be best to reach out to the owner of the code (metafizzy.co).
