I have the events calendar on the front page and below that are the events posts and the posts to the blog. I am using a snippet that let me get the calendar on the front page and the fix to get the event posts to be included in the front page. However, all the future event posts are at the top and bump any new regular posts down and out of sight if the event post’s date is in the future (the event posts drop down when the event date is past). The links in the calendar and in the sidebar mini calendar and future events links take people directly to the event post so the event posts don’t need to all be at the top of the queue. Is there any way to have the event posts appear in the standard order of when they were posted so they are intermixed with regular posts?
I am using the Twenty Eleven theme and there are no plugin conflicts.

Navigate to your ECP settings >> checkbox to “Include events in main blog loop”

I’m not sure if you knew of this setting or if you are looking for a different solution, but as it stands this is an OTB feature 😉

Hi, Cynthia. I think what you’re asking is how to order events by creation date, rather than start date. Great question!

Here’s a snippet to drop into your theme’s functions.php file to change that behavior: https://gist.github.com/jazbek/7129020 You’ll also need the Include in Blog Loop setting checked.

Please let us know how it goes!

Thanks Kelly. Yes that is exactly what I am looking for. I added your snippet to my functions.php file and the posts are now intermixed with the regular posts for the dates created except for two. There was an event in September that was a 2-hr each day recurring event on Sep. 24, 25, and 26.
When it got posted, Events Calendar turned it into 3 separate posts, which was OK if that is what is needed to show them on the calendar. But now, even though this event is past, the last one was moved to the top. I tried to edit them but there is no way to mark them as Past Events so I deleted the recurring event information in each post. Now two of them are showing above October posts.

It seems if I edit a past event now, it gets moved to the top as newly created. Not sure if that is a glitch in the snippet or in the recognition that the dates are Past Events.

See http://events.stcwdc.org/ The post for “Virtual Conference: Apply Usability and Accessibility Skills to Your Work-3 Days” was posted on September 9 and it is now appearing above October postings.

I have also tried editing those two event posts that appear above the October posts to Hide them from the Events Lists. But that didn’t work–they persist. Guess, I’ll try just deleting the ones for 25 Sep and 26 Sep and hope the original for 24 Sep stays put.

Hi, Cynthia. Unfortunately, this is a really tricky one because you’re ordering different post types by different criteria in the same query. As such, I’m afraid that more customization is outside the scope of what we can offer here in the forums.

If you would like further help with this, we do have a list of freelancers that we’ve had good experiences with and would be happy to share with you. Let me know if you’re interested.

    Best of luck!
