ParticipantTried entering user_key over and over. Everything is set correctly. Import from Eventbrite gives the error. all codes are installed where needed – license key for Eventbrite Tickets, user api for eventbrite and the other one that is required.
Does it matter that I am using eventbrite tickets on a different url (a development url) than where it will finally be used?October 8, 2013 at 12:41 pm #69924Kelly
ParticipantHi, chrisnewell4444. I’m sorry that you’re having issues with importing events.
I know it’s a pain, but would you mind telling me about the User Key that you’re using in your user profile? Is it all digits? How many characters are there?
Are you sure that the user creating the import is the user with the key in his or her profile? (Each user needs to have a valid key in his or her profile.)
It would also be helpful to see screenshot(s) of the error you’re getting.
As far as I know, the URL for the wordpress site shouldn’t be an issue.
Thanks! 🙂

ParticipantHi Kelly,
21 digits, all numbers. The exact error message, which appears in a pink bar, is “The following Eventbrite error has occurred: Invalid user_key
This appears on the page in the ‘Import: Eventbrite’ of the plug-in.
I have checked and re-checked the user key entry, spent an hour educating the help desk at Eventbrite today (resulting in me being told it is impossible for any plug-in to import from Eventbrite into WP), un-installed the plug-in and re-installed, checked and re-checked.
The theme I am using is Responsive Free version.
I get the exact same error when creating an event in The Event Calendar and sending it to Eventbrite.
Question – does it matter if Eventbrite for WordPress is installed?October 8, 2013 at 4:09 pm #69952Kelly
ParticipantWow! That all sounds really frustrating. I’m sorry this is proving to be such a tough nut to crack.
You definitely don’t need anything installed on your site other than TEC and the Eventbrite Tickets add-on. Have you tried to import an event with one of the default WP themes and only those two plugins activated? Did it make a difference?

ParticipantHi Kelly,
Yes, tried it with twenty twelve theme and no other plugins activated and no successOctober 9, 2013 at 7:26 am #70058Kelly
ParticipantThanks for confirming that, chrisnewell4444.
I’m wondering if as a next step, you could create an account for me on your server where I could try to connect with my EB User API Key. That might be a nice clean way to test it within your environment.
If you’re game, please respond via private reply with the URL, username, and password. I should have time to test later today or first thing tomorrow, depending on when I hear back from you. 🙂

ParticipantThanks for getting back to me so quickly, chrisnewell4444. I’ll let you know when I’ve had a chance to do some testing. 🙂

ParticipantHi, chrisnewell4444. I took the time to test this out now, since you caught me just in time.
It turns out I was able to import a new event into your site exactly as expected. Here are the two events:
http://educationforresults.com/newasamembers/wp-admin/post.php?post=1331&action=edit
https://www.eventbrite.com/event/8737559275
(You’ll notice there’s an error at the top of the event page, but that’s only there because I removed my API key. It wasn’t there before.)
All that said, it looks like your site is configured correctly. I’d encourage you to double check your API key and ensure that there are no spaces that might be gumming up the works. Maybe try creating a fresh event in Eventbrite and try the import again.
Let us know how it goes! 🙂

ParticipantWhy is it that I, literally, tried it more than 50 times and got the same error, yet you go in and create an event and it works, then I go in and create an event and now it works? There’s nothing new in my event – I just copied an event.
Thank you Kelly.October 11, 2013 at 11:26 am #70581Kelly
ParticipantWow! So glad to hear that made the difference (even if I have no idea why it would have).
Thanks for letting us know, chrisnewell4444. We’re very glad to have you as part of the community!
