Interim Solution for Yoast SEO title conflict?

I understand that the Yoast SEO plugin title conflict will be addressed in the next release, but is there an interim solution, a function or filter to use?

I’m assuming my problem is the same as everyone else’s: The title in Upcoming Events is “[name of next event] | site name” and on the Event Category itself it shows just ” | site name”.
