    When I:

    1. Create a new recurring event, for instance, starting and ending on 7/11/13 from 8a to 5p recurring every day ending on 7/15/13.

    2. Publish then view the event. (At this point if I look in the event edit list I see 5 instances of the event, as expected.)

    3. Edit the event, click on an event category, and update the event. (Still have 5 instances in event edit list.)

    4. View the event, edit the event and update.

I now have only four instances of the event. Each time I repeat step 4 I have one fewer instance, until there is only the 7/11/13 instance remaining.

Any suggestions on why this might be? I’m running a clean install of WP 5.3.2 with Twenty-Twelve and no plugins except The Event Calendar 3.0 and Events Calendar Pro 3.0.1

When you update the event you should be presented with a dialog offering a choice between updating the current and all future events or just the specific instance – which are you selecting?

So far I’ve been unable to replicate this.

Always updating all future events. The choosing of an event category is important, as is editing the event by using an Edit Event link–not by using the browser’s Back button.

I’m sorry but I can’t replicate this as you have described. Viewing and editing events other than the first in the sequence (ie, event number 3), assigning a category and updating all results in the chain of recurring events being broken in half – which is expected – but event instances are not arbitrarily disappearing for me.
