Have downloaded a second time in case originally corrupted but install process consistently gives: 408 Request timeout.
Any suggestions?

ParticipantHey Bruce,
The nature of problems like this are unfortunately – usually – related to things on the level of the server. So, how are you hosting your web site? e.g. are you using a shared host like GoDaddy, MediaTemplate, WP Engine, etc., or are all you self-hosting it?
In either case, your best option for now is to contact your web host’s support team and open a ticket with them. I hate to send you to another support team when you’re here trying to open a ticket with us, but if this is indeed a server issue then only your web host will be able to help 🙁

ParticipantGeorge,
I had just about come to that conclusion and will raise a ticket with them.
Decent and very helpful hosting at insty.me – not on the cheap end with Hostgator etc.I am using MainWP for management and I realised overnight that before this installation I had set Wordfence to level 4 security at MainWP recommendation to secure against XML-RPC Bruteforce Attacks. I wondered if this might have anything to do with the failure to install a plugin. (you have to allow non-techies to speculate on things like this).
However, I turned it down to level 2 (normal) and tried again but got the same result. Can I just check that guarding agains XML-RPC Bruteforce Attacks will not affect the install process?
Regards

ParticipantGot the plugin installed and the site working again.
Is the Events page fixed as narrow with sidebar?
I see that unusually there is no Edit Page option in the top menu to allow a change of Page template to Wide.October 13, 2015 at 8:14 am #1014138George
ParticipantHey Bruce,
Thanks for the update here! I’m glad you’re on a good web host – and out of curiosity, what ended up being the source of the problem?
As for your question here:
Is the Events page fixed as narrow with sidebar?
This depends on the coding of your theme; if you’re not satisfied with the events template as it stands, one thing that might be helpful is to head into Events > Settings > Display in your wp-admin. On this settings tab, there’s an option called “Events template”. I’d recommend trying every available option here and seeing if any of them work better with the Events page.
Cheers!
