Info/feature Request: Development Roadmap, Organizer enhancements

Hi there,

I’m working on my first project using TEC/EC Pro and it’s marvellous so far – and the bits that I need to “bend” are proving a great way to learn more about how WordPress works.

There’s been several questions about Organizers from people in the forum, and I’ve read responses saying that things will be addressed in release 2.1.

Do you have any idea of the timing of release 2.1, and what the parcel of fixes is likely to be?

I’m trying to work out whether it’s better for me to try to bash through and develop my own solution to the problem, or whether it’s likely that you guys will release what I need quicker than I can figure out how to do it.

My requirement is to more or less have Organizers expanded to work more like venues, so that I can get a list of them sorted by Name out of the loop, and to be able to link to an Organizer page (which has scope to display all Events connected to that Organizer).

Hi Jason, I do believe organizer-related functionality close to what you are describing is on it’s way. We’re actually skipping the 2.1 release and going straight to 3.0 since the number of new features being introduced is considerable.

I can’t give an absolute timeline for this – we still need to run through several phases such as beta testing – but we’re hopefully looking at a release sometime before the close of 2012.

Hi Barry – thanks for that… OK, I guess I’ll try to get mine working in the meantime and see what happens.

Do you guys try to release updates regularly (and if so – how often has it been?), or is it more sporadic?

Typically “dot releases” or minor releases such as 2.0.1, 2.0.2 etc are released monthly. These are maintenance releases and are used to address any bugs or to tidy up aspects of the plugin according to user feedback.

Major and version releases are not so strictly timetabled and we can’t really offer a guide for that – it does of course depend to a large extent on both customer feedback, what the competition is doing and what enhancements are appropriate without straying too far from the problem domain.

To the best of my knowledge we don’t have a public roadmap available, but you can certainly get a sense for what’s on the horizon by looking at our product posts over in the blog (and by subscribing to our newsletter).
