    Hi,
I am trying to use WP All Import to import 100 or so events with their tickets. I tried doing it using your import feature but it just seemed a little frustrating. It is limiting in what options it provides and it does not give me an easy way to identify and delete items once they are imported, if there were any errors. Anyways, I was able to get the events, products, and tickets imported using WP All Import but I am struggling to figure out how to import events so that the ticket is tied to it. In the same way I am struggling to figure out how to have the ticket tied to a product. If you could help by providing me with any information on how all 3 items are connected in the database that would be very helpful. I was able to get the venue tied to an event using the venue id (generated with a custom function) but I did not have the same sort of luck trying to connect the tickets.

    Hi Cordes,

I’m sorry to hear of your frustration with the import process. I will try to help find the information you need.

The ticket is connected to the event via a post meta key that contains the event ID. The name of the meta field is “_tribe_eddticket_for_event”

Let me know if this helps.

    Thanks,
    Sky

    Hi Sky,

Thank you for responding to me. Unfortunately, if I do a SQL search for that key I do not get any values. I also tried doing an import with mapping the event id to that field but it did not work. Do you have any other suggestions. The other thing question is then how do you attach a ticket to a product. I am just hoping there is a solution to import the tickets and create products. Do you have any other suggestions or something I am missing.

    Cordes,

I am sorry that the information I provided didn’t help. I am limited in the amount of support I can provide for the process when using a third party plugin. Perhaps we can look at your issues with the default import options?

What did you find limiting about the default import process? Maybe we can get that to work as desired? I did think of a way you could identify the items of an import. You can create a temporary category to assign to each event in the import, and then delete afterwards. If something goes wrong in the process, you could use that category to identify all the events from that batch.

Let me know if there’s any way we can work with the default import option.

    Thanks,
    Sky

    Hi Sky,

Thank you for following up so quickly. I do like the idea of using a temporary category. Do you know if there is any way in the import to set the status to be draft instead of published so that category would not show on the front end? One issue that I really need a solution to but can’t figure out has to do with the ticket capacity. When I import the tickets it shows as out of stock. I would love to be able to set the tickets to “Unlimited capacity.” Do you know if that is possible. The other thing I am having a hard time with is we have some custom ticket fields under the “Attendee information.” We add those to every ticket so I would love a way to add those by default. That can either be through the import or programmatically in the template. Do you know if that is possible? Finally, is there any sort of a log or anything that can tell me why certain entries were not imported? It just says some were skipped but it does not say why.

    Cordes,

When you are in the “preview” step of importing, there are two dropdowns at the bottom, one for setting the status, and one for setting a category. If you do add a custom category, you will need to create it beforehand. You could also just set them all to “pending review” if you don’t have other events with that status, and not need to add the temporary category.

When importing Tickets, it’s important that the event has already been created before doing the import. There is a field for ticket stock, but it only accepts an integer, so I’m not sure about setting it to unlimited. But I assume setting it to some number that you know will never be reached would have the same effect.

Custom field information imports the same as the default fields. You just need to set the correct column in the CSV to the custom field name. For them to show up, you just need to have created the custom fields in Events > Settings beforehand.

There is a history of imported events on the import page, but it does not specify why events were not imported. There are a few fields that are essential when importing an event. I believe it’s event name, event start date, and event end date. If one of these fields is missing or using the wrong format etc, it will not be able to import the event. Pay attention to how the dates are formatted. You need to use slashes or hyphens depending on what order the day and month are in.

You can read more about the import process here.

Let me know if any of that helps, and if you have any other questions.

    Thanks,
    Sky

    Hi Sky,

Thanks for all of your help with this. I think I was not clear in terms of the custom fields. What I was referring to is the Ticket Fieldsets that can be added to a ticket. Is there any way to import those or enable one by default for all events?

    Cordes,

I apologize, I was referring to the custom fields in the settings, which is indeed a different thing.

There is a way to save a custom fieldset for reuse on future events (check “Save this fieldset for use on other tickets”) but not a built in way to enable by default or to import these fields with a ticket, unfortunately.

While researching this, I did come across mention of another custom field for tickets, “_tribe_wooticket_for_event” which is similar to what I first posted except specific to WooCommerce. The first one I provided was specific to “Easy Digital Downloads,” so not sure if that helps with your original line of inquiry.

    Thanks,
    Sky
