We are using the import function to update our venues. However when we update events using the import function it deselects the “Show Google Map” option. As we are trying to potentially update several hundred venues at a time, manually going through each one and resetting every time is simply not an option. Is there something we can put in the CSV to work around this bug?

    I did find this article

CSV Import Show Google Map not set

but could not see a resolution to the problem.

Can I also ask (not a bug) if we can import the description and url for a venue at the same time?
    Regards
    James

    Hey James!

Yes, this is indeed an issue and–in fact–we will be releasing a fix for it in the next update of the plugin.

In the meantime, if you are using “True” and “False” as values in the CSV column for the map, try using “1” and “0” instead. It seems that the issue (at least in the other thread) was that the importer was not accepting the true and false values, even though it should have.

    Cheers!

Thanks for coming back to me on this so promptly Geoff.
Unfortunately I think I maybe missing something, as when I try to import venues I only have a few options (from the drop down) to try and marry up to the columns in my csv and “map” is not one of them. I have re-watched the video and looked for an example csv but still confused.
Are there other columns we can include in the csv that auto maps against the map “1” and “0” selection you mentioned.
Are there also column headers we can use to import the “description” for a venue?
    Regards
    James

    Hi James,

Oh man, I’m so sorry–I think I misread your initial question and missed that you were referring specifically to venues rather than events.

Yeah, unfortunately, there is no way to import that setting for venues through the importer. My apologies for missing that the first time around, but I hope that helps clarify things a bit.

You had also asked about importing descriptions at the same time. I do see that a similar feature request has been suggested, allowing any post data to be mapped on import. We’re definitely looking into it and it would be great for you to add your vote there if you have a second–plus, that will subscribe you to updates on the progress of it.

    Cheers!

    Hi Geoff,
Thanks again for coming back to me so promptly. I do have some confusion and further questions..
    1. If we add a venue and then go back at a later date and update using the import function (as it is intended) and that process changes a settings (removing the map, that was not requested), surely that is a bug that needs fixing?

    2. As a venue is rarely, by definition, going to change its address I think it fair to assume it would typically be the details or photo that an administrator would want to update, however these are the two bits that you can not update.

    3. So on the basis you are unable to add all the details on an initial import (as it requires you to manually go in and add an image and description), you also can not use it to update details as you would again be required to manually go in and reset the map function to every entry. I need to ask..what is the purpose of the venue import?

I am trying not to come across as facetious or agitated. I have asked support several questions and they all end up with “why not make this a feature request”. When I have asked to pay you (over and above for paying for all the add-ons we have purchased) for further support, you responded by referring me to other companies that support your plugin. After contacting them I can confirm they either are not taking on work or no longer exist.

In order to work around things like not being able to show a list of venues we have installed other modules that require us to do double entry http://www.funferret.co.uk/places/things-to-do-in-cheshire/ of items and more shockingly turn off (downgrading using experience) functions we want, like “map zooming on scroll” and “geolocation” in order for it to feel similar to your plugin http://www.funferret.co.uk/events/, which seems a shame not use these great functions on other modules.

I am not being angry or abusive. I have experienced some great support from wordpress plugin providers over the years for their plugins, even ones that are free.
Please please please, can you help me out. I really am genuinely pleading for you to help, I am happy to pay you or someone else to help fix this bug, add geolocation, list venues and fix map scrolling, even though we paid for the pro “updates and support”. We cant keep posting stuff as a “request” and hope it is picked to get done one day.
I really want a good relationship with you as a provider and work partner on a very important project for us.
    Please help me out.
    Regards
    James

    Hi James,

Thanks for getting back to me here. I don’t take anything you said in a bad or negative way at all. You make some fine and fair points and, of course, I want to make sure we’re doing everything we can on our end to support you.

I dug around with one of our developers and whipped up this plugin for you. Please activate it and that should allow venues to be re-imported without affecting the Show Google Map status.

It looks like the core issue here doesn’t have to do with how the CSV Importer imports Venues, but is compounded by another issue in how Events are imported that is being addressed in an upcoming release. Either way, it’s great that you noticed this and brought it up.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you’re still hitting trouble here and I’d be happy to help as best I can. 🙂

    Cheers,
    Geoff
