I’m trying to duplicate a copy of my events calendar (http://www.ageekmom.com/events) in Google Calendar. I created a new Google Calendar to hold the events and successfully exported the current month’s data via .ics from my website into the new Google Calendar, but beyond that, it it failing. It pulls in up to the 6th of November (for some odd reason–I’ve even removed the events around that date in case one of them was problematic for some reason) and then nothing else, and during Google Calendar import, Google reports 20 events added, but nothing new appears in November.

Even with all non-Events Calendar plugins disabled and using the Twenty Fourteen theme, the resulting .ics I get contains 97 events when I’m looking at the November calendar but the events duplicate my (already populated) October Google imported events and nothing new past November 5-7 is imported (depending on what events I toggle on/off as I test. At this point I don’t think it’s a single event breaking it. October imported superbly and the events in November follow the same formatting/style schema.

Feel free to export my .ics files and tell me I’m bleary-eyed and it works great for you. I’ve tried it for the past 2 hours to no avail, including importing it into Mac OS X’s native Calendar instead of Google Calendar to see if there was some incompatibility — same result.

    Help?

    Thanks in advance,

So, I did some testing using some of The Events Calendar “Showcase” sites.

One of the sites I tested that exhibits the same problem I’m having is https://africa.si.edu/. Attempting to export their November events into a blank test Google Calendar results in receiving past events up to November early November even though their calendar is populated with events all the way to November 30th.

I noticed the URL for their “Export Month’s Events” button matched mine — it doesn’t include the year or month. Now we’re on to something. https://africa.si.edu/events/month/?ical=1&tribe_display=month

Another of the sites I tested, http://events.boisestate.edu/, does NOT exhibit the problem I’m having. It functions as desired. When viewing their November calendar, clicking their “Export Month’s Events” button results in receiving an .ics file that contains the November calendar view’s events (which, yes, does contain some end of October & beginning of December events–this isn’t an issue; the issue is receiving an incomplete data set. One should receive ALL of November’s events, and one does on the boisestate.edu site.

The URL for their “Export Month’s Events” button for the month of November calendar view? https://events.boisestate.edu/events/2016-11/?ical=1&tribe_display=month

Using The Events Calendar’s public Demo calendar as a test (http://wpshindig.com/), I also have the same failure as on my own website and as on https://africa.si.edu/. When viewing the November calendar in month view and clicking “Export Month’s Events”, the resulting .ics populates a fresh/blank test Google Calendar with the calendar’s events from Sept. 25 to only Nov. 4 even though the calendar’s November events span to the 30th. In this case, as well, the URL for the “Export Month’s Events” button doesn’t pass the month and year — http://wpshindig.com/events/month/?ical=1&tribe_display=month

    Hey Shannon,

Thanks for reaching out to us!

I think I see what may be happening here. The ical “feed” by default isn’t necessarily a feed of all the events within your calendar. It is a snapshot of a months worth of events.

However, we do have a great snippet that you can add to your main site within your child theme’s functions.php file:

    https://gist.github.com/cliffordp/ab1f7c4d95723ee6f892

This will allow you to use the “/events/?ical=1&year-feed” URL structure to access a full year worth of events and use that to import into your Google Calendar.

Let me know if this helps.

    Thanks!

My follow-up post explains the issue in greater detail. I’m aware the ical “feed” by default isn’t a feed of all the events within the calendar. It’s behavior, however, is not functioning as designed. At least not on my site and not on all sites running the calendar. See my followup post in this thread.

    Hey Shannon,

Ah, I see what you’re describing. The exports are working as expected UNTIL you navigate to another month and try to export. Try exporting when using the http://ageekmom.com/events/month/?tribe-bar-date=2016-11 URL structure. This should give you the exports for November. Without that, the export will pull whatever the default month is.

Let me know if this helps.

    Thanks!

Yeah, that’s the workaround I’ve been using. I just thought the navigation bar would actually function 😉 and let folks (including myself) grab any month’s worth of data they wanted. Ok, thanks!

    Hey Shannon,

Thanks for following up here! I’m glad that worked for you in this case.

I agree though that there does appear to be, at the very least, a usability issue there and have opened up a thread with our team to look into this one a bit further.

I’ve added this thread to our internal ticket for tracking this issue and you’ll be notified here as we make progress on this one. Let me know if this helps.

    Thanks!
