ParticipantHello, I was following the other threads with this issue, but couldn’t come to a resolution based on those (or the threads were closed). I just downloaded the iCal Importer and implemented it on my site. I connected my Google cal to the plugin via URL and all events, starting today, are duplicated (none of the ones before today are duplicated…). I initially had it updated every 30 mins, then changed it to hourly, with no change. I also deleted the recurring import, but everything is still showing on the calendar. See screenshot here: http://cl.ly/0u3D3V2W3f0J
Is there any way to a) remove the deleted import’s events from my calendar, and b) fix/stop the duplication (so I can re-import the events)?

MemberHi Erikka,
I’m sorry to hear you’ve hit up against some difficulties here.
Deleting the saved recurring import won’t impact those events which have already been imported, which is why they remain on the calendar. However, no further imports (from that source) should be generated.
Currently we do not have a tool to remove only those events which were imported via iCal, so to do this (if manual cleanup would take too long) we’d probably need to supply you with some SQL statements. Do you feel comfortable using these? If not, manual cleanup may be preferable even if it does take some amount of time (and, that way, you could leave one copy of each in place).
In terms of stopping the duplication, I’d really need to figure out why that was happening in the first instance. Can you share the Google Calendar URL you were importing from?
Thanks!

ParticipantI’ve never worked with SQL statements, so that might not be the best option unless you have tutorials or a knowledgebase post as to how to directly use them. We also only have the free version of The Events Cal, so can’t manually add or delete events. Is the only option then to purchase the $89/yr subscription for The Events Cal??
I will send a private message with my Google calendar’s URL. Thanks for looking into this.

ParticipantAlso, another thing to note is that all of the dates are displaying incorrectly. On the homepage of my website, the dates are completely wrong (screenshot: http://cl.ly/3K1p292r2f1Q ). Then when you go into the event detail, it lists both the correct and incorrect dates (screenshot: http://cl.ly/0L0h0t0N031w ). I’ve gone into the settings to make sure that the timezone is set correctly, and it is. Not sure if this is a side effect of the duplication?

MemberThanks for sharing the feed. I’ll perform some tests with that this morning and get back to you π
On the homepage of my website, the dates are completely wrong
On taking a closer look, those parts of your homepage (and single event page) are not consistent with what I’d expect to see if you were using our stock templates.
Is it possible you have customized things or that your theme shipped with customizations targeting our plugins? Perhaps they are using an old or incorrect template tag if so?
One way to check this out would be to switch to a default, unmodified theme that does not contain any customizations/overrides and see if the same problem still crops in the single event page. You could also deploy our Events List widget and again check to see if the same problem occurs there.
Beyond that, let’s concentrate on the duplication issue in the first instance and we can circle back to this problem (possibly in a different thread, especially if it is unrelated to iCal Importer).
Thanks and I’ll update you again as quickly as I can π

MemberHi again!
On a clean installation, using that same feed, I do not experience the same problem with duplication.
I wonder: do you have a test site, or could you create one? This could be as simple as a fresh installation of WordPress in a subdirectory (ie, example.com/testwp) … if you add only The Events Calendar and iCal Importer and set up the same feed, do you experience the same problem with duplication?
If you do not it may indicate that there is or was a conflict on your live site.

ParticipantThanks Barry, I don’t currently have a subdirectory/subdomain set up. I will look into creating one. Before, I do it though, I’m wondering if a simpler fix might be to delete the Events Cal plugin and re-upload/activate?
As you’ve seen, I’m using a template that came with Events Cal installed, so maybe the issue is in this template’s version of the plugin… I need to use this template for my site, so if Events Cal + iCal Uploader require no template, then I won’t be able to use their services.

MemberBefore, I do it though, Iβm wondering if a simpler fix might be to delete the Events Cal plugin and re-upload/activate?
You can definitely try that – perhaps just keep a close eye on things after reactivation in case duplication does re-occur, that way you can minimize the amount of events you potentially have to clean up (if things do go wrong).
I need to use this template for my site, so if Events Cal + iCal Uploader require no template, then I wonβt be able to use their services.
Our plugins are designed to be customizable – and various themes take advantage of that, which is great.
However, if their custom templates trigger problems or require updates (which may be the case here) then that’s something you’d need to discuss with the theme vendor.
The first step, though, would be to determine if it is indeed a problem with the theme’s event-specific customizations. Checking if the same problem (where the dates are displaced) occurs with a default theme is a great way to do this π
