I have a current WooTickets license (which is due for renewal VERY soon – like within a week). We also use the Event Calendar.

With the new tickets included in the Event Calendar I am thinking I no longer need the WooTickets. Furthermore, I do not believe that we will need the Event Tickets Plus (we don’t need the QR code).

I have upgraded to the new Events Calendar and still have Woo Tickets activated.

I would like to verify I am thinking correctly and my question is how (or what is the correct process) to use implement the new Event Tickets feature and NOT the WooTickets plugin?

    Hi kerrycarron,

Thanks for getting in touch! I’m happy to answer your questions.

With the new tickets included in the Event Calendar I am thinking I no longer need the WooTickets.

I think you’re referring to our new core plugin Event Tickets, which is not part of The Events Calendar plugin. It’s a separate plugin, but like TEC it’s free for you to use! You can download it here. If all you need is to know how many people are attending your events and collect their names and emails, the core tickets plugin will likely cover your needs. However, if you’d like to sell tickets, you’ll want to switch to using Event Tickets Plus instead of WooCommerce Tickets.

Either way, the best thing to do is to let your WooCommerce Tickets license expire. You’ve been automatically granted a license for Event Tickets Plus with the same expiration date. If you want to use the Plus features (like paid tickets), renew that license instead, and follow our instructions for transitioning from WooCommerce Tickets to Event Tickets Plus.

If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

    Best,

    Leah

When you say sell tickets what do you mean. We definitely need to have tickets available for purchase but I do not believe we need them to be physical tickets.

I am getting a little nervous about letting this get to only 2 days before my renewal is due to know if I actually NEED to make a purchase. I am afraid I do not understand and do not wish to make a purchase that may not be needed. Additionally, and perhaps more importantly, I do not want to “NOT” make a purchase and then have my client need to have the Plus plugin.

    Hi kerrycarron,

We definitely don’t want to feel stressed about this transition. I’ve gone ahead and shifted the expiration dates for both WooCommerce Tickets and Event Tickets Plus out another month. That way you have time to make your decision.

When I say sell tickets, I mean any time you want someone to register and pay you. If you are not collecting payments, you might consider the free plugin Event Tickets. But if you need to collect payment from people who are attending events, you’ll need to have Event Tickets Plus. Does that help clarify?

    Best,

    Leah

YES! That answers my questions regarding what we need. Thanks.

so far, I have been successful in moving to the new plugin (Plus version) and deactivated the WooTickets. I have also invoiced the client and will send payment upon my receipt of their payment (should only be a few days).

Another question has arisen during this process, which has come from my client. Do the tickets look the same? They had been wanting to change some of the wording of confirmation to the ticket purchaser. I have not gotten any in depth knowledge of the Event Tickets Plus processes yet to know this answer yet. Is this by chance a built in option to the plugin, or will I need to add some custom changes to the plugin?

I’m glad to hear that clarified things! 🙂

The tickets do look more or less the same, although they now have QR codes (here’s a screenshot).

You can customize the wording and styles of the tickets, but it does take custom work (that is, there isn’t a built in customizer function for it). You’ll want to check out our Themer’s Guide for more details, and in particular the section on Event Tickets.

We can’t provide in-depth support on customizations, but if you get stuck feel free to start another thread and we’ll do our best to point you in the right direction!

    Cheers,

    Leah
